Devils at the World Championship: Devils Stars Continue to Shine

Defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler also found himself on the scoresheet, picking up an assist on the Swiss’s second goal of the game. In addition, Akira Schmid got the start, saving all 15 shots. So far at the World Championship, Schmid has gone 2-0 with a 0.75 GAA and a 0.952 SV %.

Team U.S.A

Team U.S.A. has had two more games, a 5-0 win against France, and a 4-1 win against Poland. After a herculean effort to help earn the Americans a point against Slovakia, Luke Hughes followed it up with an assist against France.

Hughes’s night against Poland was a quiet one as he was held off the scoresheet. He’s up to two goals and two assists in five games at this year’s World Championship.

Team Canada

Team Canada played in two of the craziest games of the tournament, a 7-6 OT win against Denmark and a 4-1 win against Norway. Dawson Mercer went pointless in just 8:50 of ice time in their game against Denmark which saw the Canadians blow a 6-1 third-period lead.

A few days later Nico Daws got the nod in goal against Norway where he faced just SIX shots on goal all game. Daws stopped five of the six shots while also picking up an assist. Dawson Mercer was a scratch in that game.

Team Slovakia

Slovakia’s lone game since Monday was a commanding 4-0 win over Poland. Simon Nemec continues to be the catalyst for the Slovaks at this tournament, adding another assist on a goal by former Devil Tomas Tatar, as well as leading the team in ice time with 19:32. That brings Nemec up to one goal and four assists at the World Championship so far.

Team Czechia

Ondrej Palat and team Czechia won a thrilling 7-4 game against team Denmark this week, as well as a 4-0 against team Austria. Palat continues to be an important contributor for the host nation, scoring a goal and adding an assist against Denmark.

Against Austria, Palat added an assist on the fourth Czech goal of the game. That brings his tournament total up to two goals and three assists in five games.
