from Tom Gulitti of Fire & Ice, There hasn’t been much speculation about Devils captain Zach Parise being traded before next Monday’s NHL deadline (at least not by anyone informed), but in Toronto (the capital for NHL rumors) it’s hard for some to understand how the uncertainty of Parise’s contract situation – he’s due to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 – hasn’t been a distraction for him or the team. Devils coach Pete DeBoer gave a simple answer for that this morning. “It hasn’t been a distraction, I think, because our general manager has made it very clear that it’s not an issue, he’s not going anywhere, he’s a big part of our team, he’s our captain,” DeBoer said. “I think that kind of ended the distraction right there. Also, the fact of where we’re sitting and where we’re heading and how we’re playing, he’s a huge part of that. So, it’s a non-issue.” continued
