Pro Sports Daily:
New Jersey Devils left wing Ilya Kovalchuk has been ruled out of Tuesday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Kovalchuk suffered a leg injury during the team's 4-3 shootout win over the Atlantic Division rival Philadelphia Flyers last Thursday. While he has shown improvement, The Bergen Record detailed that the team wants Kovalchuk to be 100 percent before returning to game action.
The 28-year-old Russian, who notched a pair of assists in Thursday's win, pulled his muscle late in the third period and did not participate in the shootout.
Signed to a 15-year, $100 million deal prior to last season, Kovalchuk collected two goals, seven assists and two penalty minutes in 11 games this season.
Kovalchuk is setting his sights on a return to the ice for Friday's contest against the Washington Capitals.
