Former New Jersey Devils captain Jamie Langenbrunner is returning to the team where his NHL career began, at least for the remainder of this season.
The Devils announced they'd dealt Langenbrunner, 35, to the Dallas Stars in exchange for a conditional draft pick in 2011. The pick will be a third rounder, however, if the Stars either advance beyond the first round of this year's Stanley Cup playoffs or Langenbrunner re-signs with them, it becomes a second round pick, and the Devils send them their third round pick.
The last time Langenbrunner played for Dallas was in 2001-02 and was dealt to the Devils in a multi-player move between the two clubs at the March 2002 NHL trade deadline.
Northjersey.com's Tom Gulitti reported Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said the deal was essentially completed late Thursday morning but extenuating circumstances (believed to be tied to the Stars' uncertain ownership situation) delayed the announcement of the trade until today.
