Center Stephen Gionta of the Devils had to leave practice yesterday (Tuesday) due to re-injuring his ankle. The hope is he will still be able to play tonight against the Anaheim Ducks. When he made a quick cut to keep up with defenseman Adam Larsson, he hurt is ankle. He went down to the ice and got up slowly, then went straight to the dressing room. Larsson was at the right point and quickly cut left, then to his right, and when Gionta tried to keep up, he fell to the ice. “Lars made a good move on me,” Gionta said. I kind of caught a rut and rolled it over a little bit. It was just precaution to get off the off and be smart.” Gionta first injured his right ankle when he fell feet-first into the boards against Toronto on Nov 8th. He missed the next two games after the fall. He hopes to play against Anaheim. “I don’t see why not,” he said. “I don’t think it’ll be an issue.” Coach Pete DeBoer said: “We’ll see how he is in the morning. He hit a rut.
