The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired center David Steckel from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a fourth-round pick in this year’s draft.
Steckel, who has two years remaining on his contract, had one goal in 18 games with the Devils after being acquired at the trade deadline from Washington.
Steckel found himself in the news last season after he delivered a punishing hit to the head of Sidney Crosby during the Winter Classic on Jan. 1. Crosby was hit again in the head days later and has been sidelined since.
Steckel has 24 goals and 35 assists in 209 career games.
