Devils Trade Tyce Thompson to Islanders for Arnaud Durandeau

The New Jersey Devils announced on Sunday that they’ve traded forward Tyce Thompson to the New York Islanders in exchange for Arnaud Durandeau.

Thompson, the son of former Bridgeport Islanders head coach, Brent Thompson, was born in Oyster Bay, New York. The now-former Devil also played for the Junior Islanders program.

Thompson was drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 NHL draft, 96th overall by the Devils. He played 11 total games with the Devils across three seasons tallying just one assist. In 98 career AHL games with the Utica Comets, Thompson scored a total of 15 goals and 35 assists for 50 points.

The Devils are acquiring a fast, clever winger with offensive skill in Durandeau. Across 179 career regular-season games with the Islanders AHL affiliate Bridgeport Islanders/Sound Tigers, he’s recorded 112 points (49g-63a). This season, the 24-year-old forward has one goal and three assists in 12 games.

Durandeau made his NHL debut with the Islanders last season with the Islanders, given a shot at playing on the top line with Mathew Barzal. He skated in four games before he was returned to Bridgeport.

Durandeau was the Islanders’ sixth-round choice, 165^th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft.

The Devils’ new acquisition will report directly to the AHL in Utica.

According to the press release, “Born on January 14, 1999, the native of Montreal, Quebec, played four seasons with Halifax in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) from 2015-16 to 2018-19. His time with the Mooseheads overlapped with two current Devils forwards. He was teammates with Timo Meier in his first QMJHL season and Nico Hischier in his second year.”
