The New Jersey Devils defeated the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 tonight to force a Game 6 in LA Monday night. I believe all the pressure is now on the Kings to win Monday (their game 7) in order to avoid making another cross-country trip and face even more pressure of a real Game 7 on Wednesday. Watch the game-winning goal from Bryce Salvador midway through the 2nd period. Below, watch the first New Jersey goal from Zach Parise on a turnover from LA goaltender Jonathan Quick. Fired-up Parise buoys Devils' dream

When Peter DeBoer had finished tossing verbal bouquets toward his captain, Zach Parise, the New Jersey Devils coach had an odd request for the assembled media at the Prudential Center. "I think you guys just [ticked] him off," DeBoer said. "Keep doing it." Parise's tour de force performance in the Devils' 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings in Game 5...

That was the first goal of the Stanley Cup Finals for Parise who had been held scoreless in five games for Parise how had been (0g-0a-0pts) and a minus 4 in the last five games going back to...

The sound you heard was a sigh of relief from New Jersey Devils forward Zach Parise has he scored his first goal in six games for the New Jersey Devils. Fluke goal helps Devils cut Kings' series lead to 3-2

NEWARK, N.J. -- Bryce Salvador claims he's not doing anything differently in the playoffs, but after going without a single goal during the regular season, he's turned into a legitimate offensive force for the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup playoffs. "After going through 82 games without a goal, I'll take any goal I can get," said Salvador, who broke...

Red WIngs mid-day quickies: on Semin, a Rufenach tribute and the great chain of citation

On what remains a somewhat quiet Saturday in terms of Red Wings news… The biggest story of this afternoon’s news cycle involves the Wings’ most likely Zach Parise back-up plan in one Alex Semin. Via a heads-up from Sports.ru, Semin spoke to Sport-Express (the article lists no author some reason), and if you’re a fan of the streaky scorer, especially given his chemistry with...

Ryan Suter - Not Worth The Hype

The same two guys have been on our mind for the past few months. Ryan Suter and Zach Parise.  Suter and Parise.   These are the golden tickets this summer. If we don’t get at least one of those two, puppies will be kicked.   Kittens thrown.  And turtles flipped.  Kenny, think of the turtles. Now, you don’t have to convince me on Parise.   Not only has he lead his team...

Mike Augello: Toronto May Be Sole Suitor For Luongo

As mentioned on Hockey Night in Canada’s “Hot Stove" Saturday night, NHL general managers expect that the trade market will be busier than normal leading up to the June 22 Draft, since thefree-agent bidding war that will start on July 1 is limited to two big names; Ryan Suter and Zach Parise. While the Maple Leafs maneuvering themselves into a position to draft Russian...

Red Wings overnight report: on free agent uncertainty and more 97 Cup reminisces

On a very grumpy morning for a mildly aggravated blogger: Regardless of what you, I or Red Wings GM Ken Holland would like to believe as to whether Zach Parise, Ryan Suter or any other player might test the waters of unrestricted free agency, the plain and simple truth of the matter is that it’s the player’s decision. The player’s current rights-holders can do everything in...

Devils win Game 5, make it a series

There were a lot of ‘firsts’ that came from tonight’s 2-1 Game 5 win for the New Jersey Devils.  Most importantly, for the first time this postseason the Kings looked outside of their element and have watched the Devils inch back into the series. For the first time since 1945, a team trailing 3-0 in the Stanley Cup Final has forced a Game 6.  How did the Devils do it tonight...

Fantasy Hockey Playoff ONE: Kings-Devils SIX!

Now here we are........please note this obviously could be the last game of the season tonight. If not, the scene shifts back to New Jersey on Wednesday for a Game 7. It is Monday already and time for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Los Angeles Kings and the New Jersey Devils. When you have an eight seed up against a six seed, one has to say that this is just...

Devils halfway to historic comeback

In retrospect the NHL probably should have stuck with its’ old Stanley Cup Final campaign, “history will be made,” because the New Jersey Devils are on the verge of doing just that. After going down 3-0 in the series to the Los Angeles Kings, the Devils have made a triumphant comeback to cut the series lead to just one game and put the brakes on what seemed to be an all but...
