I never do polls on the blog, but with Brandon Prust making his first return to MSG tomorrow since signing with the Canadiens, I was wondering if Rangers fans thought he deserved a tribute video. I'll share my feelings after the jump as to not influence anyone... Does Brandon Prust Deserve a Tribute Video? ...Prust was a solid Ranger no doubt, but to me, tribute videos are for legends. The return of Messier, Leetch and Jagr. Not for guys who were only on the team for two plus years. This is no slight to Prust, but to me if you're giving tribute videos to every player who gave a good effort in a Rangers uniform I think you cheapen it. ...hell the Rangers barely gave Boogaard one and he died. Welcome Back Brandon Prust!

Tonight marks Brandon Prust's return to MSG for the first time since signing a 4-year, $10 million contract with the Canadiens this past offseason. Prust was an all heart player, who thrived in John Tortorella's forechecking system and obviously became a fan favorite instantly. 67% of TheNYRBlog readers feel Prust doesn't deserve a tribute video before the game...

Max Pacioretty scores first goal on dump-in from center ice (Video)

Montreal Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty scored his first goal of the season in the most unusual way possible, a dump-in from center ice, during the third period of Monday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Pacioretty's dump-in from the left wing somehow made it past Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward, just 18 seconds after Pacioretty recorded an assist on a goal from teammate...

Game 15: Rangers vs. Canadiens

Richard Wolowicz/Getty Images North America Tonight, the Montreal Canadiens come to town, and it’s the return of old friend Brandon Prust. Prust is expected to get a warm welcome from the fan base, but once the puck drops, all that goes away. The Canadiens have given the Rangers trouble in the past, but this is a different Ranger team that is built on speed and forechecking. The...

Carey Price makes nifty save on bench, sparing rinkside analyst’s face (video)

Just because Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price wasn’t between the pipes on Monday night for the Habs’ game against the Carolina Hurricanes doesn’t mean he wasn’t able to display some fancy glovework while watching the action on the ice while seated on the bench. During the second period, a puck off the stick of Hurricanes defenseman Jamie McBain (awesome name —...

Brendan Gallagher Out With Concussion But Improving

from the CP at TSN,  Montreal Canadiens rookie forward Brendan Gallagher suffered a concussion in Saturday night's win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Gallagher -- who has five goals and three assists this season -- left the game in the third period after taking a hit from Flyers defenceman Luke Schenn. Habs coach Michel Therrien says Gallagher is already feeling...

Goalie Makes Save on the Bench, Saves Reports Face (Video)

It's not often you see a save from the bench, but Carey Price may have made the best save of the NHL season while not even playing.  Fortunately for former Canadiens’ goalie and current RDS analyst, Marc Denis, Price was sitting in front of him on his night off and saved a rogue puck from nailing him in the grill.   Check out the video below.  Sadly for us we don'...

Cam Ward allows goal from behind the red line

Montreal Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty has had a rough start to the season.  He had to have an emergency appendectomy, was allegedly bitten by Mikhail Grabovsky and then endured a laceration to his ribs from a skate.  Pacrioretty had been unable to find the back of the net this year until fate gave him a lucky bounce. Late in the 3rd period he dumped a puck in from just behind...

“Huh?” A Reaction to the Habs-Bolts Goaltending Trade

Dustin Tokarski was traded from Tampa Bay to Montreal on Thursday On Thursday, February 14th, the Montreal Canadians and Tampa Bay Lightning swapped minor league goaltenders; the Habs get Dustin Tokarski while the Bolts land Cedric Desjardins.  Though it may not seem like such a big deal, to this writer’s opinion, the Canadians made out like bandits! Tokarski, a Humboldt, Saskatchewan...

Eric Engels: Habs Have a System that Works for Them

A hockey coach will often tell you to that focus should be on the process, even if the results are what we base our judgements on. If you focus on the process the Canadiens have entertained, they're playing a style of hockey that best suits their biggest asset-- speed. I asked Ryan White and Brandon Prust what they liked most about Therrien's system. Their answers...

Hurricanes win streak snapped vs. Canadiens

MONTREAL (AP) -- Michel Therrien's lessons about finishing off games appear to be paying off for the Canadiens. Tomas Plekanec and Max Pacioretty scored 18 seconds apart in the third period to seal Montreal's fourth straight win, a 3-0 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night. Pacioretty added an assist and Brandon Prust also scored for Montreal in the third...

Eric Engels: Habs and Canes Aim for Four Straight Wins

Since game two of the season, the Montreal Canadiens have held tight to a playoff spot. With performances like that of last week, they don't intend on relinquishing that spot any time soon. Three straight wins against Tampa, Florida and Philadelphia all but erased three straight losses the previous week against Boston, Buffalo and Toronto, and the Habs are putting the heat...

Goal Breakdown: Canadiens at Rangers

This could have been one of the most boring games I have ever seen. The teams combined for just 13 shots in the first, 25 total through the second, and very little offense. In the end, the Canadiens took advantage of two big Ranger miscues, while the Rangers couldn’t take advantage of the 27 icings the Canadiens took. The Habs won a boring game against a shorthanded Rangers team...
