A bit of surprising news coming out of Montreal this afternoon after the morning skate as Sabres Alternate Captain Drew Stafford will find himself in the press box as a healthy scratch when Buffalo battles the Canadians tonight at the Bell Center.
He joins John Scott and Andrej Sekera as the team’s scratches with Thomas Vanek and Nathan Gerbe set to return to the lineup tonight when Buffalo goes for it’s third straight win.
Stafford scored the shootout goal that kept Buffalo alive Thursday night against Toronto, a game Buffalo ended up the victor. It’s a sign of how much the former 30-goal scorer as fallen.
The Milwaukee native has just four goals this season, and has found himself on the fourth line multiple times since Ron Rolston took over as the team’s interim head coach.
Could this signal that the end is near for the 27-year old winger in Buffalo? Will something happen later today, tomorrow? Who knows. What is known is that Stafford cannot be pleased with being a healthy scratch for the first time this year.
Leave a comment below with your thoughts on the situation, and check back later as we have move on the Sabres.

This is the second Buffalo Sabres post in two days – like it’s almost always sunny in Buffalo. Sabres winger John Scott was having some fun with teammate Steve Ott during a postgame interview Thursday after the Ott the game-winner in a 5-4 shootout win for the Sabres.
It’s only the twelfth win for the Sabres in 31 contests, so they need to enjoy them as they come. There...
Imagine how interesting hockey life would be in Buffalo if a team coached by Lindy Ruff came into First Niagara Center - say, three weeks from today - to battle the Sabres in a game with major playoff implications.
With an opening created this morning courtesy of the Tampa Bay Lightning, that scenario may not be so far fetched. Continue reading "Ruff In Tampa Would Be Compelling"
The ****** man.
Alright, now that I got that out of the way, let's get to the reasons for his sudden rise in popularity in Buffalo. It is a pretty simple formula: Funny, hard working and hard hitting. That's the recipe for succeeding in this town with the minions. It is the reason why fans loved the Nolan teams, Mike Peca, Rob Ray and pretty much anyone who has a few...
from Dan Rosen of NHL.com,
Buffalo Sabres: It's hard to nail down exactly what players GM Darcy Regier would be willing to deal before the deadline, but chances are he'll listen on just about anybody. If teams are looking for defensemen, they can inquire about Robyn Regehr and Jordan Leopold -- both have expiring contracts. Regier recently floated the possibility that...
Thomas Vanek scored two goals to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night.
It was the Sabres' (13-15-4) third straight win in a run that began with an overtime victory in Montreal on Tuesday. Ryan Miller stopped 39 shots in this one for Buffalo.
Michael Ryder scored the lone goal for Montreal (20-6-5), and Carey Price made 16 saves...
Tampa Lightning GM Steve Yzerman has fired his head coach, Guy Boucher.
The Bolts, like the Sabres, have been a disappointing team for most of this lockout-shortened season. The Bolts find themselves in 14th place (27 points) in the East.
Yzerman's team scores goals by the bushels full, however, their team D and goaltending have been awful this season.
Is Lindy Ruff the...

Buffalo’s leading scorer is ready to make a comeback.
After missing Thursday’s game against Toronto with a lower body injury suffered at the hands of a Christian Ehrhoff slapshot on Tuesday, Thomas Vanek practiced on Friday albeit for 20 minutes.
“I feel good. It’s when of those where I got hit right on the bone and it froze me for two days, I...
from Jerry Sullivan of the Buffalo News,
He’s in his fourth NHL season. There’s talk of moving the veteran core of Thomas Vanek, Jason Pominville and Ryan Miller. Myers is the new core, the future, the presumed superstar who was supposed to be the foundation of the franchise.
But do you build a team around a defenseman who isn’t tough to play against, who comes out...
Just like that, Thomas Vanek scores both goal to deliver his team to a well earned 2-1 win in Montreal. The Sabres have now beaten the Habs twice in their own building this week.
Vanek scored the games's first goal by tipping home a Christian Ehrhoff point shot for the PPG. He also scored a beauty heel drag on Carey Price with 38 seconds remaining in the second period. Oh...
Hockey fights are very common, but what is not are the significant events that took place in Buffalo on Thursday night.
Colton Orr, who has a total of 1,026 penalty minutes in his 11-year career, recorded 29 minutes in just two seconds of playing time on Thursday. The Maple Leafs’ right winger not only served two minutes for cross-checking Buffalo’s Patrick Kaleta, but he also...
Nothing like a good hockey game in between a fight.
That's basically what happened Thursday night when the Buffalo Sabres got a hard-fought 5-4 Shootout win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
And we say hard fought, we mean HARD fought.
The highlight of the evening to many: A Fight/Dance featuring a fight between Buffalo's John Scott and Toronto's Frazer McLaren...
On Wednesday afternoon I opened my mailbox to find a familiar sight, one that I've come to expect every spring for the last six years. But never has it left me more incredulous.
"An invoice for Sabres playoff tickets? What kind of sick joke is this?"
My favorite part was this excerpt from the letter that accompanied the invoice: “With the NHL Playoffs...
Montreal's only blemish during its current seven-game points streak came at home to the Buffalo Sabres earlier this week.
The Canadians have a chance to avenge that loss as they host the Sabres for the second time in five nights Saturday.
Montreal (20-5-5) avenged its only regulation loss in the last 19 games with a 5-2 road win over the New York Islanders on Thursday. The...
While it's no secret that Robyn Regehr, Jordan Leopold and Drew Stafford are being mentioned in trade talks, a report last night hinted that the Sabres could be putting a bigger name than all three of them on the block. Continue reading "Report: Myers’ Name Is “Out There For Trade”"
