Fox Sports West:
Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf has signed an eight-year, 66-million contract extension, the Ducks announced Friday.
Getzlaf, 27, is enjoying a strong comeback season and leads the team in scoring. He would have been a prime free agent after this season.
"We are very happy to have Ryan committed to this franchise long-term, Ducks Executive Vice PresidentGeneral Manager Bob Murray said in a statement. He has often expressed his interest to stay in Anaheim for his entire career, a goal we share. He is a leader, a proven winner, and possesses a skill set thats hard to find. This is a great day for the Ducks.
As L.A. Times columnist Helene Elliott wrote, "Where Getzlaf was sloppy defensively last season, he's diligent and has earned his plus-10 defensive rating. Where he was emotionally detached except when he took bad penalties he's fiery but controlled. Where he couldn't buy a goal, he's producing. He has six goals and 18 points in his last 11 games and stands among the NHL leaders with nine goals and a team-high 27 points. He had 11 goals and 57 points in 82 games last season and was minus-11."
The Ducks are 16-3-3 and have 35 points. They rank No. 2 in the NHL and have equaled their franchise-best point total through 22 games.

The Anaheim Ducks made a bold statement yesterday when they agreed to an 8-year $66 million extension with captain Ryan Getzlaf. What exactly was that statement? Well, for starters it could signify the end of Corey Perry's time in Anaheim. The general consensus around the blogosphere, and the NHL itself, was that Perry would command a higher annual salary than Getzlaf. Now what...
Anaheim has made two entry level signings this week.
First, they signed center Charlie Sarault to a three year contract that was announced on Tuesday. Sarault, 21, currently leads the Ontario Hockey League in scoring for the Sarnia Sting.
"I guess since its not so much of a secret anymore, yes the rumours are true I did just lately sign to the Anaheim Ducks, I can...
Jonas Hiller faced only 18 shots in his first shutout of the season, Corey Perry scored in the first period and the Anaheim Ducks beat the Phoenix Coyotes 2-0 on Wednesday night for their ninth straight home victory.
The teams met for the third straight time in a five-day span, following a pair of 5-4 shootout victories by the Coyotes in Phoenix on Saturday and Monday.
That figure is being reported by Darren Dreger of TSN after talking to some rival GMs.
Dreger also reports what teams may be interested in Perry along with additional Perry talk.
Watch the report here.
Anaheim hates going to Detroit. Joe Louis has been very unkind to them over the years and the Ducks have a mere four wins in the building in 20 years. Calgary can feel Anaheim's pain, because a visit to the Honda Center has yielded absolutely nothing in return for the past 16 games in a row. The Flames last win in Anaheim? January 19, 2004.
The latest victory to...
Jonas Hiller turned aside all 18 Phoenix shots and Ryan Getzlaf posted an empty-net goal and an assist as the Anaheim Ducks blanked the Phoenix Coyotes 2-0. Corey Perry had the Ducks’ other goal.
SPIN: Perhaps Hiller’s demise was a little exaggerated. He rode the Ducks’ coattails at the start of the season but got replaced by Victor Fasth between the pipes. Hiller was able...
It only took three times (and a change of venue!) but the Ducks finally defeated the Coyotes. After two consecutive 5-4 shootout losses in Phoenix, the miniseries came to Anaheim where everything changed.
The Ducks and Jonas Hiller were able to procure a 2-0 shutout on Wednesday night. In a case of very strange fuzzy math, the Ducks and Coyotes split the three game series...
The panel discussed what does Anaheim do with Corey Perry, the GM meeting is March 20th and some of the issues which may be brought up are goalie equipment, too many games going to the shootout and diving.
Then visor talk was brought up and finally, the most sought after NCAA player is...
After facing the same team for three straight games, the Anaheim Ducks should be eager for the chance to extend their home winning streak against a different opponent Friday night.
The Ducks look for a 10th straight victory at Honda Center while also trying to continue their home success against a Calgary Flames team seeking a season-high third consecutive win.

As expected by most, the Calgary Flames lost to the hot Anaheim Ducks last night in a 4 zip match. The Flames managed to outshout the Ducks in the first period 12-4 and stay right with them in that department for the two remaining periods, though their chances were just not enough.
Despite playing a strong statistical game, the Anaheim Ducks...
