ANAHEIM, Calif. The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed defenseman Tim Heed to a three-year, entry-level contract. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Heed, 21 (12791), completed the 2011-12 season with Malmo of Swedens Allsvenskan league (second division), scoring 4-26=30 points with 10 penalty minutes (PIM) in 47 contests. The 5-11, 177-pound defensemen led all league blueliners in assists and ranked second in scoring. Heed also scored 1-2=3 points in six postseason contests in 2011-12.
A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, Heed appeared in 12 games with Sodertalje of the Swedish Elite League in 2010-11, recording 1-0=1 point. In addition, he also played in 29 games on loan with Vaxjo in the Swedish Allsvenskan League, recording 3-20=23 points with eight PIM.
