The Anaheim Ducks will be without center Ryan Getzlaf as they try to make franchise history Tuesday against the Florida Panthers.
Getzlaf will miss his second consecutive game with an upper-body injury sustained during a morning skate Friday. He went on that night to record a hat trick in a 6-2 victory against the Buffalo Sabres, but sat out Sunday when the Ducks beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-1 to finish a three-game homestand.
"Make no mistake about it, we missed the big fella coming in there," Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said Tuesday. "He is our straw that stirs the drink. When he's playing he controls the power play, he kills penalties, he usually plays against the other team's best checking line. We miss him."
Getzlaf did not take part in the morning skate Tuesday, but Boudreau said he was expected to be on the ice for practice Wednesday. The Ducks' next game is Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Boudreau said he wanted to be cautious wit...

Anaheim Ducks captain and leading scorer Ryan Getzlaf has been scratched from Sunday night's game against the Vancouver Canucks because of an upper-body injury.
Getzlaf has 10 goals and 12 points through his first 18 games, helping Anaheim vault to the top of the NHL overall standings.

The Anaheim Ducks beat the visiting Vancouver Canucks 3-1 on Sunday night and it wasn't pretty or easy, but it happened anyway. Playing without the services of the teams leading scorer and best overall player, Ryan Getzlaf, the Ducks made the most of their opportunities and stretched their winning streak to five games.
Anaheim was outplayed and over matched for the majority...
Center David Steckel has re-signed with the Anaheim Ducks.
The NHL-leading Ducks assigned Steckel to their AHL affiliate in Norfolk on Monday.
Anaheim also assigned goalie Viktor Fasth and left wing Matt Beleskey to Norfolk on long-term injury conditioning loans.
The Ducks acquired Steckel from Toronto last March. He scored six points in 21 games before playing in all seven postseason...
Corey Perry certainly has his head in the game.
The Anaheim winger has been on a scoring rampage as of late, recording five goals in the past five games, but he really outdid himself against the Canucks. In a play that should award Perry the goal and the assist, the Duck played the puck off of his head before settling it down and slapping it past Roberto Luongo with his stick.
Preview: Anaheim Ducks (15-3-1) at Florida Panthers (3-11-4)
The NHL point-leading Anaheim Ducks travel to Florida to play the Florida Panthers in the first game of a four-game road trip. The Ducks have won three straight games against the Panthers dating back to 2010, and will host Florida on Mar. 23 at Honda Center to close out the season series.

The Anaheim Ducks just keep winning. They absorbed injury hit after injury hit this season. Their early schedule kept them on the road, touring North America like a Disney ice show. And they just kept winning, earning 31 points in their first 19 games.“It's surprising, but it's a nice surprise,” Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau told reporters after his team earned its fifth...
Anaheim Ducks forward Ryan Getzlaf is out day-to-day with an upper-body injury, as reported by Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times. It is believed that the injury is related to a fall he took in last Friday morning’s pre-game skate. He did however play on Friday against the Buffalo Sabres and finished with a hat trick and an assist, all of which came in the first period.
Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf is out with an upper-body injury and is day-to-day, the team announced Sunday before its game against the Vancouver Canucks at Honda Center.
Reporters did not witness it, but Getzlaf apparently took a spill in the morning skate Friday, and coach Bruce Boudreau mentioned after the game Friday night that Getzlaf was nearly a game-time decision. Not...
The Anaheim Ducks have signed veteran center David Steckel to a one-year, two-way contract.
Steckel, 31, has been assigned to Norfolk of the American Hockey League, where he had been playing on a conditioning assignment prior to signing the NHL contract.
A noted faceoff specialist, Steckel split the 2012-13 season between the Ducks and Toronto Maple Leafs. He had one goal and six...
And so the winning streak ends for the Anaheim Ducks. The 3-2 loss to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday was hopefully a wake up call for a team that fell asleep at the wheel and veered off course, but not before the Panthers pounced.
Florida, a team dwelling at the bottom of the NHL standings, so much so that they replaced their coach a couple games ago, decided that enough...

To the surprise of few, the Nashville Predators have found life to be very rough without goaltender Pekka Rinne in the crease. Since he has been out with a bacterial infection in his hip, the Preds have been leaking goals left right with their inexperienced goalies.
SO it would make sense if GM David POile weren't at least considering the options out there to try and get the...
The Ducks have been playing at a fast and furious clip to start the season, with no sign of letting up. They continue to rack up wins and points and remain at the top of the NHL with a 15-3-1 record.
Their most recent win was a 3-1 defeat of the Vancouver Canucks, who are newly in the Pacific Division this year, thanks to realignment.

Peter Horachek will cherish his first victory as head coach in the NHL — although probably not as much as the Panthers do.
The Panthers ended their nine-game losing streak with an improbable 3-2 victory over Anaheim at BB&T Center on Tuesday night.
The Ducks, despite the loss, still have the best record in the league as they have as many regulation losses as the Panthers...
