The John Tortorella thing just keeps getting better. Before Game 4 - and after he embarrassed himself, his organization and the league with his press-conference performances - Lord Torts suddenly found a use for the media when his player, Brandon Prust, was facing a suspension
Just like that, The Great Man turned into Winston Churchill. He talked about the Devils’ many crimes against the Rangers. He talked about their under-handed tricks on the power play. He defended Prust at length. It was great stuff.
But here’s the thing. If you’re going to be a jerk, be a full-time jerk. At least that way people know who they’re dealing with. You can’t be a jerk 80 per cent of the time, then turn into Mr. Thoughtful when it suits.
But that’s Tortorella. He isn’t even good at being a jerk.

With the hockey playoffs on going, and BMR's coverage admittedly faltering a bit, I decided we needed a big get. And I got one! How 'bout those lineup changes?
The question posed to John Tortorella at his Monday morning press briefing at Madison Square Garden was about which skater would replace the suspended Brandon Prust in the lineup for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals.
Tortorella's answer? He had no answer.
"I don't know what my lineup is," Tortorella said when asked if Stu Bickel could play forward.

Prust's hit ignites drama
The Eastern Conference Final began last Monday night.
The war of words commenced Sunday.
John Tortorella ripped Devils coach Pete DeBoer's "head-hunting, plain and simple" comment about Brandon Prust's elbow to the back of Anton Volchenkov's head in the second period of the New York Rangers' 3-0 win in Game 3 at the Prudential Center Saturday afternoon...
Options to replace Prust tonight
Whether you agree with the suspension or not, Brandon Prust will not be playing in tonight’s Game 4 against the Devils. With the opportunity to build a two game lead, the Rangers will be without one of their warriors and top penalty killers. It’s a blow, but not a blow that can’t be overcome. Unlike with Carl Hagelin, the Rangers have a few options readily available to replace...
Prust to Have Disciplinary Hearing with League
The National Hockey League, as advised by VP of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan, will be conducting a disciplinary hearing with New York Rangers forward Brandon Prust this morning. That hearing will be in response to Prust's elbow to the back of the head of New Jersey Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov, which went unnoticed by the officials early in the second period of Saturday...
Rangers look to hold puck more
One of the characteristics that has defined this edition of the New York Rangers has been their collective buoyancy. With the Eastern Conference Final now a best-of-3, Rangers coach John Tortorella believes mental toughness will once again come to the forefront.
"We're one of four teams still playing," Tortorella said Tuesday afternoon following the Rangers' practice...
Jan Levine: Game 4: NYR-NJD, Gamesmanship Adds Additional Subplot to Series
What might have been just a simmering feud burst into full blown gamesmanship, and likely a little bit of hate, yesterday when coach John Tortorella accused the Devils of embellishing when checked/hit by the Rangers and staying down when they could get up as well as their use of a pick play to free up space, as seen on the PPG by Ilya Kovalchuk in Game 2. In addition, he highlighted...

McGuire Goes Silent
from Neil Best of Newsday, Pierre McGuire, NBC’s “Inside the Glass” hockey reporter, declined Tuesday to go beyond what he shared with his TV audience about the Game 4 argument between coaches John Tortorella of the Rangers and Peter DeBoer of the Devils - which wasn’t much.
“They weren’t having an amiable conversation about what they were going to do for dinner in the...

Rangers Brandon Prust Suspended for Game 4
New York Rangers left-winger Brandon Prust has been suspended by the NHL for elbowing Anton Volchenkov in the head in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the New Jersey Devils.
Brandon Shanahan the league's Vice President of Player Safety and Hockey Operations does not take hits to the head lightly so his decision to suspend Prust was not surprising.

Prust suspended for Game 4
The New York Rangers forward Bandon Prust is going to be suspended for his elbow on Anton Volchenkov during yesterday's game. I predicted that this play would warrant a suspension from the National Hockey League Department of Player Safety yesterday. The NHL has set a precedence if you hit someone where the head is the principle point of contact you will be suspended, it no longer...
Brandon Prust Suspended One Game
Almost 1 1/2 hours ago reports surfaced Prust was getting suspended for one game.
As of this moment, still nothing official from Brendan Shanahan but I am sure the reports are accurate.

Why Bickel Was Scratched
After yesterday's game John Tortorella addressed why he scratched Stu Bickel in favor of Steve Eminger (via Bergen Record)..."I don't want to put Bick in a bad spot, because it's certainly not why we lost the last game. We put Emmy in because we just wanted to get to pucks quicker. We thought he may be able to get to pucks quicker. We've had a few struggles...
