The hockey shootout is a chance for individual players to show off their skills in a mano-a-mano showdown with the opposing goaltender, and the moves that some players come up with are absolutely brilliant. Then there’s the über-slick shootout move pulled off by Colton Yellow Horn of the ECHL’s Ontario Reign, in a game against the San Francisco Bulls, that borders on genius. Coming down Bulls goalie Thomas Heemskerk, Yellow Horn slides the puck between his legs, then kicks it back to his stick before finishing with the very Denis Savard-esque spin-o-rama. The sick shootout goal won the game for the Reign, as they beat the Bulls 4-3. As for Yellow Horn, the shot was definitely high risk-high reward, and was probably better suited for practice, shinny with your buddies, or while playing NHL 13. Then again, Yellow Horn converted his beauty shootout attempt with ease—much to the chagrin of Heemskerk who had zero chance of stopping Yellow Horn’s shootout artistry—so what do I know?
