The NHL trade deadline passed Wednesday, and while plenty of star players changed teams, the biggest name rumored to be available stayed put. Vancouver Canucks center Ryan Kesler, who reportedly requested a trade, was not dealt despite a number of teams expressing interest in acquiring him. Two of Kesler’s Canucks teammates, goaltender Eddie Lack and defenseman Kevin Bieksa, are happy that the veteran center will remain with the team for at least the rest of the 2013-14 season. They displayed their feelings via Twitter. Ryan Kesler is the Canucks’ best bargaining chip — by far

Following his one season at Ohio State University, I asked budding NHL star Ryan Kesler what he studied in 2002-03 at the famed institution. “I wasn’t much of a student,” he said. No, but Kesler is a hell of a player. And because the five-tool dynamo combines speed, size and grit with an offensive presence and the drive to shut down top opposing centres, the bidding has intensified...

Flyers pursuing Canucks center Ryan Kesler?

Last week, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said he didn’t envision making any major moves before Wednesday’s trade deadline. His stance apparently changed over the weekend, once word leaked that center Ryan Kesler may be on his way out of Vancouver. Two league sources told the Daily News that the Flyers have tabled a "substantial offer” to try and pry Kesler from...

Could Ryan Kesler Become a Blackhawk?

Three days ago, Stan Bowman shot down any speculation that the Blackhawks would be active at the 2014 NHL Trade Deadline."No, we're not focused on the deadline. We're really happy with the team we have. We made a couple moves right before going [to Sochi] to fix some depth at forward."Bowman continued, "I think sometimes it's hard a guy comes in for a couple...

Bruins Had A Deal For Alex Edler. Here's Why You Should Be Happy It Fell Through.

This morning Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe wrote that the Bruins had a trade in place for Vancouver's Alex Edler, which was contingent on Vancouver moving Ryan Kesler to Pittsburgh:  "The Canucks would have received an NHL center in Sutter in return for Kesler. But Sutter is best suited for a third-line role. It’s likely Vancouver would have asked the Bruins...

At the end of the 2011-2012 season Roberto Luongo demanded a trade out of Vancouver and made it quite clear he wanted to go back home to Florida. 1) With less than an hour left to the deadline, Ryan Kesler, Thomas Vanek and Matt Moulson were still available pieces.
