Anton Lander of the Edmonton Oilers got rocked by Steve Ott of the Dallas Stars on Saturday. It was hard, fast, and a blind-sided hit. It even caused a ruckus between the two teams. And Oilers coach Tom Reeney says the hit to his player warrants a Shanaban. Here’s what happened via the Score: Ott received a two-minute penalty for the hit, and five for the fight. Renney simply said after the game, “He should be getting a rest,” according to the Edmonton Journal. The Score blog suspects there will be a hearing, but maybe not a suspension. Ott may be a little rough around the edges as a gritty player, but this hit may be more open to discussion than those past if this one makes it to Brendan Shanahan’s desk. Thoughts? Does Ott deserve “a rest”? Does Renney reserve the right to speak out against Ott? Matthew Wilson is editor of Center Ice Chat. Follow him on Twitter @Mattjw24. Oilers' Eberle suffers knee injury

Edmonton Oilers forward Jordan Eberle left Saturday's game against Dallas with a knee injury. Oilers coach Tom Renney said he did not know the severity of the injury. Eberle leads the team in scoring with 17 goals and 26 assists. He has already matched his team-leading total of 43 points from last season. The 21-year-old Eberle has been on a tear with 30 points in his last...

Kristians Pelss at the 2012 WJC

Edmonton Oil King and Edmonton Oilers’ prospect Kristians Pelss was named the Team Captain for his country, Latvia in the 2012 IIHF World Juniors Tournament. For Pelss, being the team captain, the only player drafted into the NHL, a player currently playing in Alberta, and one of the few players on the team that speaks English fluently made him a very popular man with the media...

Oilers at the Mid-season Mark

The Edmonton Oilers have finished last for the last two seasons and now with injuries mounting, the team has been in a bit of slide. Some are already expecting a third 30th place finish. It’s not as though the team has not been in games through their most recent roadtrip, but a loss by one goal is still a loss. Just for fun, this is a comparison of the first half of this...

Total Recall

The Edmonton Oilers have recalled Gilbert Brule, Magnus Paajarvi and Ryan O'Marra from Oklahoma City. We can imply a few things from this transaction, including the fact that Teemu Hartikainen and Josh Green didn't impress enough in their latest cup of coffee. We await news today on Jordan Eberle's injury, and there's a chance Brule won't get through waivers.

Sail On, Sailor

We did this a couple of weeks ago but the Oilers road trip, injuries and zero talk about an Ales Hemsky extension get us here. The Oilers will be active from now to the deadline. Book it.INJURYThe road trip was a disaster on all levels, but losing RNH, Gilbert and Eberle is especially cruel. Edmonton sent down Teemu Hartikainen and Josh Green after the game and it's reasonable...

Rookies

Despite appearances, the Edmonton Oilers are relying far less on rookies this NHL season. The huge number of rookies from a year ago are still developing but at least the pace of new hires has slowed to a more normal rate. 11-12 Rookies (TOI)Ryan Nugent-Hopkins 658Corey Potter 549Anton Lander 395Lennart Petrell 282Colten Teubert 182Alex Plante 32Teemu Hartikainen 27Ryan O'Marra...

D-man tops Oilers' list

The general manager of the Edmonton Oilers is "actively shopping" for an experienced defenseman, according to Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun. GM Steve Tambellini could try to swing a multi-player deal involving either winger Ales Hemsky or center Sam Gagner. The Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs are rumored to be interested in dealing a blue-liner.There's...

Richard Cloutier: Oilers Call-up 2; Attempt to Call-Up a Third

Thanks to the 101 injuries the Oilers currently have, this morning they called up from the minors Magnus Paajarvi and Ryan O'Marra. They also placed forward Gilbert Brule on re-entry waivers, with the intention of calling him up tomorrow if he clears. My instant-analysis is as follows: Paajarvi - Rumor is, the Oilers will give him an opportunity to play on one of the top...

Richard Cloutier: That Was the Best Oilers Game Ever

I'm tired of being negative about the Oilers. They are great. Really, really great. Super great. Wonderful. Best hockey team ever. Did you watch the Dallas/Edmonton games this afternoon? I did too.
