Long Gone Gagner?

Rumors today from the Big Smoke about Toronto interested in Sam Gagner. According to Damien Cox there are voices in the wind suggesting a defenseman would be coming the other way. If only it was Jim Dorey. Based on the defensemen the Leafs probably consider available, if true this could end very badly for the Oilers.

Opening Night: Why Do the Oilers Have to Wait?

The NHL starts up again tonight, it should be an exciting season in many cities across the league. Based on the media reports I've seen, three Canadian teams (Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto) will win the Stanley and there's probably 7 or 8 in the USA who feel the same way. Oiler fans have to wait until Sunday--they are the last team to pop the cork on the season--to play Pittsburgh...

Oilers’ Defencemen and Injuries

Minor Updates and Musings The Edmonton Oilers may not be as short on defenceman opening night as was previously believed. According to the Oilers website, “Both Ryan Whitney and Ladislav Smid are progressing and could potentially shock Oil Country by playing vs. the Penguins, but Taylor Chorney is certainly ready to go.”  If Whitney feels ready to play, the team trainer clears...

Richard Cloutier: Oilers to Get 1; Lose 1 on Waivers?

Follow me on Twitter Or be my friend on Facebook ------- Will Tuesday spell relief for the Oilers? By the afternoon we will know if a team has picked off an Oilers player from the waiver wire, and/or if the Oilers grabbed a player or two from waivers. Let's start with a possible outgoing player, Gilbert Brule. There was a rumor circulating Twitter on Monday that the...

Roster Set?

Taylor Hall's team looks like it's ready to leave the station for 2011-12. Some quick healing defensemen have apparently made a waiver claim or trade moot, and we can hope that Ryan Whitney has some good practice sessions for the rest of this week. Based on this article from Jim Matheson, we might conclude the roster will look like this. IR: Sam Gagner, Ryan Whitney, Ladislav...

Lennart Skennard

For those of us who remember the player-type known as the '2-way winger' this summer was a watershed. Adding veteran Ryan Smyth--not strictlly a 2-way forward but he can do the job--will be a gigantic help, and this Lennart Petrell fellow might also be a Godsend. At least three times during preseason, 'the Petrell' has played ballhawk on the PK in the neutral zone...

Will Whitney Jump Right In And Play?

from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal, Can defenceman Ryan Whitney play in the Edmonton Oilers’ seasonopener this Sunday stone-cold with nary an exhibition game or any game for 285 days? Could Whitney suit up and just play the power play and feel his way into an NHL game for the first time since popping a tendon in his ankle on Dec. 28, 2010, against the Buffalo Sabres? Or...

Last season, Edmonton's Food Bank received more than 9,300 pounds of food from teh Rock and Wrap It Up Food Recovery Program. The Edmonton Oilers Comm...
