Sheldon Souray will be with a different AHL team then at first expected. The Edmonton Oilers have decided to loan Souray over to the Washington Capitals AHL team, the Hershey Bears.
As reported earlier, the Oilers wanted to move Souray off of their roster as both sides were disgruntled with each other. His $5.4 million salary cap hit also had a lot to do with the team’s willingness to move the three-time All Star.
General manager Steve Tambellini spoke about the decision to move Souray to Hershey.
“We think it's best probably for Sheldon not to put him in a spot," Tambellini said. "We didn't want it to be an uncomfortable position. This is best for the player and Oak City. He's going to a very competitive team. They like the opportunity of having him there - at this point."
The Oilers can still bring Souray back but he will have to go through waivers once again. And as Tambellini stated, Souray wants to play in the NHL.
