The Edmonton Oilers should have an edge on some Western Conference foes after deploying their cornerstone youngsters in the American Hockey LeagueForward Taylor Hall (12 goals, 17 assists in 22 games), Jordan Eberle (20 goals, 23 assists in 30 games) and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (eight goals, 12 assists in 10 games) starred at the Oklahoma City Barons, as did defensive prospect Justin Schultz (16 goals, 27 assists in 30 games). Nugent-Hopkins also took his talents to the World Junior Championships, where he quickly became the tournament’s leading scorer with three goals and eight assists.“He's just a world-class person,” Team Canada coach Steve Spott told the Ottawa Sun. “We all know what he can do on the ice. It's off the ice. Now that I've had an opportunity to be around him, he's a world-class person," said Spott. "I think he is deserved of being our captain. Eberle Takes AHL Scoring Lead

I last looked at the AHL scoring race in mid-December.  At that time Justin Schultz and Jordan Eberle of the Oklahoma City Barons (Edmonton Oiler farm affiliate) were tied for the scoring lead.  I am surprised that a rookie defenceman can lead the AHL in scoring, especially when his competition is a player who scored 76 points in the NHL last season.  Thus I figured that Eberle...

Jordan Eberle Score HT In 2:43

((HT: Edmonton Oilers)) Jordan Eberle is abusing people in the American Hockey League this year since the minors are the only place in North America where we can go see any action... He's toiling in Oklahoma City and got a hat trick in 2:43 the other night... The first two goals were nine seconds apart... Not bad... Go Barons...

Eberle's Three Goals in Under Three Minutes

As NHL Execs and union leaders prepare to meet in New York City to once again negotiate a cease-fire in the war that has destroyed at least half of an NHL season, Jordan Eberle seems to be more ready than ever to get back to work for the Oilers. Playing in the American Hockey League during the lockout for the Oklahoma City Barons, where recently signed Oiler Justin Schultz has been...

Richard Cloutier: Would You Trade Nail Yakupov?

As I write this, the NHL and NHLPA are in New York, attempting to hammer out a new CBA before the new year. Apparently, it could happen...rumors coming from meeting suggest the NHLPA is okay with most elements of the NHL's most recent offer, and only want to make minor tweaks to the deal. Stay tuned for updates on that situation. Happy New Year, btw...Let's hope 2013 is...

from TSN, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Ryan Strome scored first period goals and Malcolm Subban was stellar in net with 32 saves as Canada edged the United States 2-1 at the World Junior Hockey Championship. USA drops another heatbreaker 2-1

Team USA lost its second straight game by a score of 2-1, this time to the Canadians. Team Canada jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by future NHLers Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (Edmonton) and Ryan Strome (Islanders).
