On Thursday, several sources confirmed that Philadelphia Flyers stars Claude Giroux and Daniel Briere had signed in Germany to play for Eisbären Berlin. The team competes in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).Sunday morning, Peter John Lee, who is the general manager of the team, confirmed the signings:“These two players are the best of the best in international ice hockey. They will help take German Hockey, the DEL, and our team up to the next level”, says Berlin GM Peter John Lee, mainly responsible for the deal. “A long time ago we committed to offensive and competitive hockey. These signings are a continuation of this philosophy. Not only our lucky fans but every fan in the DEL will enjoy watching Claude Giroux and Daniel Brière. Our team will be able to learn a lot from them”According to the same statement, both players will make their debuts with Eisbaren on Friday, October 12. They will host the current top team in the standings, Kölner Haie.On another note, Eisbaren Berlin actually happens to have a pretty awesome "fight song".
