After attending another routine Penguins’ victory at the Consol Energy Center last night, you would think I would have been riding high knowing the Penguins are just one victory over the Bruins Friday night from clinching the top seed in the Eastern Conference and getting guaranteed home ice advantage for at least the first three rounds of the playoffs. That assumption would be wrong. My mood was tempered by at least five separate “Mensa” members I overheard while walking through the concourse in between periods who all think the Penguins should trade Evgeni Malkin during the upcoming offseason.  Now, of course, these same folks had already penciled in that the Penguins will have won the Cup this year most likely never once remembering that the Penguins have lost their last three playoff series all to teams they should have easily beaten.  Their “logic” all contained some of the following tid bits: “How can you pay a guy $8.7 million to put up the numbers he’s putting up?”, “Oh sur...

Penguins Recall MacIntyre

No. This is not a typo. On Thursday, April 18, 2013, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced that they have recalled forward Steve MacIntyre from their AHL affiliate; Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (WBS). MacIntyre, who has played 12 games in a Pittsburgh Penguins uniform, has played all of the games with WBS in the 2012-2013 season. Although this is newsworthy, [...]

Can Malkin carry the Penguins?

The Penguins have injuries. A lot of injuries.Paul Martin, Sidney Crosby, and James Neal are all out for at least a week while Evgeni Malkin is listed as "day to day". Crosby will be back by the start of the playoffs, Neal could be back at any time, and Martin isn't due back until the second round of the playoffs. Malkin is listed as "day to day".It truly...

Morrow flexes again for Penguins

Brenden Morrow scored two goals for the second straight game and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Montreal Canadiens 6-4 on Wednesday night to move closer to clinching the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Brandon Sutter added two goals for Pittsburgh, and newly acquired Jarome Iginla and Doug Murray also scored for the Penguins, who had little trouble with the Canadiens...

Pens inch closer to top seed in the East behind pair from Morrow; Sutter

The Penguins are on such a roll, right now, it doesn't seem to matter who is missing from the lineup. Once again, Pittsburgh won in dominating fashion despite missing their two top players, top winger, and best defenseman. Instead, the trade acquisitions went to work and contributed six points and four of the Penguins' six goals. Brenden Morrow score two while Jarome Iginla...

Penguins-Bruins Preview

The Pittsburgh Penguins haven't missed a beat despite the absences of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, and they're on the verge of securing the Eastern Conference title as a result. The Penguins have won five in a row and can eliminate the heavy hearted Boston Bruins from contention for the top spot in the Eastern Conference when the teams meet at TD Garden on Friday night...

Melnyk Gives Brief Update On Cooke Investigation

I don't think I"m exaggerating to say the greater hockey world was eagerly anticipating Eugene Melnyk's next interview following this little number (which Graeme had some fun with here). Eugene talking into a microphone is pretty much always notable, but this instance went viral in ways past curious comments stayed a local footnote. The above video was shot today...

Eklund: Who Wants to Play Who in the East in the Playoffs?

Pittsburgh Who they want to play: Since I have been doing this matchup game never has a team had such a dominance over their possible opponents. The Penguins are an UNBELIEVABLE 22-4 versus the teams who could make the playoffs this season in the east. That number is ridiculous. Over the last two years they are 42-19-4. The Pens are a combined 15-3 in the last three years versus...

John Toperzer: Game Night? Will the Pens play in Boston Friday night?

At the time of this writing, late Friday morning, the Penguins’ morning skate has been cancelled and it is unknown whether Friday’s game against the Bruins will go off as planned due to uncertainty in and around the city of Boston. Here is the audio from coach Dan Bylsma, taken Thursday after practice. The team recalled enforcer Steve MacIntyre on Thursday. Itâ...

43. Penguins at Bruins. The bWo is back jack! Welcome to the end of the new age

If you're new to DOY, then you have no idea why this is here. We have always equated hockey and wrestling. For some reason, they seem to fit well together. Ever since the Iginla thing went down - the Bruins/Penguins have acted like a WWF storyline so we figured we would actually write it like a WWF storyline. Enjoy today's preview - I worked hard on it, ha.  MARCH 25...

Storylines Abound As Bruins Prepare to Take On East-Leading Penguins (Video)

The Bruins, who currently sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings, will host the conference-leading Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night at TD Garden. But playoff positioning is but a small part of what makes this matchup so compelling. Along with perennial All-Stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, Pittsburgh’s offense has been further bolstered by the addition...

Pittsburgh Penguins at Boston Bruins: Tomorrow, 12:30 pm

Game on. It means so much less than so many things in the grand scope of everything, but it will be nice to have hockey. Go Pens. Go Boston.
