(November 18, 2011 – Source: Rick Stewart/Getty Images North America) Fresh off his 29 save shutout of the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday afternoon, Jhonas Enroth has earned himself another opportunity to start for the Buffalo Sabres. The Swedish netminder will man the goalmouth in today’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning in another contest between basement dwellers.   Enroth’s shutout against the Flyers was his first since November 18, 2011 against Carolina. Oddly enough, all of his three career shutouts have been 1-0 decisions. It’s hist first chance to play in back-to-back games this season, and if Enroth wants to prove he can be a number one goaltender for this team in the future, then he’ll need another strong outing tonight.  It shouldn’t be too difficult as he is 3-0-1 in his last four starts with a 1.46 goals against average and a .955 save percentage. Kevin Freiheit: Enroth making it look easy

For the second time in 24 hours, the Sabres earned a regulation win. This time, they defeated Tampa Bay by a 3-1 score on Sunday at the First Niagara Center. Jhonas Enroth got his 2nd straight start after his shutout performance against Philadelphia on Saturday, and allowed one goal on 33 shots. “There’s a lot of things we’re doing right right now,” Enroth...

GARTH: Jhonas Earns The Masters Jacket

Jhonas Enroth made 29 saves for his first shutout since November 18, 2011. It was his third career shutout. Enroth was pressed into mop-up duty in the third period of Thursday's 5-1 loss to Montreal. Today, the net was his and he owned Philadelphia. The Super Swede clutched up in a game his team could not afford to lose. The Sabres had been brutally bad and were outscored...

Sabres' John Scott videobombs interview

via NHL.com video Whatever I say here won’t do justice the little stunt that Buffalo Sabres’ tough guy John Scott pulled during teammate Chad Ruhwedel’s post game interview Sunday.  While MSG-Buffalo’s Brian Duff asked Duhwedel about getting a high-stick to the face while not wearing a full shield, Scott grabbed his faux fur coat and got his groove on. Duhwedel had no clue...

Sabres continue playoff push with win

Jhonas Enroth stopped 32 shots in helping the Buffalo Sabres keep up their late-season playoff push with a 3-1 win over the slumping Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday. Tyler Ennis got his first goal in 12 games, and Jochen Hecht and Kevin Porter also scored for Buffalo (18-19-6), which took over sole possession of 10th place in the Eastern Conference. With five games left, the Sabres...

Pegula scales back Sabres title expectations

Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula's objective to build a Stanley Cup contender remains the same. It's his three-year timeline that's proving unrealistic. With Buffalo in jeopardy of missing the playoffs for a second straight year, Pegula said Saturday it's unclear how long it might take to rebuild the Sabres. ''You know, I don't know how long,'&...

Sabres sign UMass Lowell D Ruhwedel

The Buffalo Sabres have signed undrafted rookie free-agent defenseman Chad Ruhwedel (ROO-wee-dell) to a two-year contract after he completed his college career at UMass Lowell. Hours after being signed Saturday, Ruhwedel made his NHL debut, playing in Buffalo's home game against the Philadelphia Flyers. He had 23 points (seven goals) in 41 games this past season in helping Lowell...

Buffalo's Steve Ott demonstrates textbook embellishment

Speaking of clowns. This is a textbook embellishment. You can't tell me that a big guy like Steve Ott who is 6'0" and 193 pounds, should be able to be knocked over this easily, no way, it's not possible. This should be a penalty on Steven Ott for embellishment. I also believe that it's probably not a smart play by Flyers defenseman Oliver Lauridsen because he...

Sabres Patrick Kaleta and Flyers Oliver Lauridsen fight

That was former Saint Cloud State Husky defenseman Oliver Lauridsen's first NHL fight, I suppose, he would have like to have done beter. Nice to see that Lauridsen take on one of the biggest pukes in the NHL, I don't hold Kaleta in very high regards at all, he's a reckless players that has been suspended numerous times by the NHL. Kaleta was also called out by teammate...

GARTH: Ruhwedel Signs

The Sabres have made it official: Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier today announced the Sabres have signed free agent defenseman Chad Ruhwedel (ROO-wee-dell) to a two-year, entry-level contract. Ruhwedel (5'11", 188 lbs., 5/7/90) recently finished his third season at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, recording 23 points (7+16) and 20 penalty minutes...

GARTH: Jhonas Twofer?

Ron Rolston but with media earlier this afternoon. He would not commit to naming his starting goaltender for today's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Rolston paused when asked if Jhonas Enroth would be getting his 2nd Street start in the past 24 hours. Rolstin said that Enroth's neck is feeling better two days after he was involved in a collision with a teammate...

The curse of the Sabres captains

I've gone on record a few times on Twitter and on this site about ******** about who should be the captain. In a word: ********. I just think fans and media members take it too far when it comes to who should wear the "C" on this team. If I had a dollar for every time someone called into a radio show or a media member ******* about how this guy should be wearing the...

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Snoozer of a Loss, Briere, Quick Hits

Two teams buried in the Eastern Conference standings put on a dull display of listless hockey for roughly 55 of 60 minutes yesterday in Buffalo. The Flyers and Buffalo Sabres didn't exactly put the pedal to the metal for most of the afternoon, and the result was a match that had the look and feel of a preseason game. Most of the noticeable players were the ones auditioning for...
