The fight between Minnesota's Cal Clutterbuck and Vancouver's Maxim Lapierre was intense enough to get an official involved.
BEST OF MAXIM
AROUND THE WEB
I have no clue who Cal Clutterbuck is. I honestly thought he was a side character in “Fargo.” However it’s my new favorite athlete name. Well good ole Cal punched 66-year-old NHL linesman, Darren Gibbs square in the face. The Minnesota Wild right winger was involved in a fracas with Maxim Lapierre of the Vancouver Canucks. Cal missed Maxim with a right hook and Clutterbucked...
Ever watch a hockey game and wonder why the referees just allow the players to go at it? The main reason is fighting is good for the game of hockey. People go to games to see fights. It’s kind of disturbing when you stop and think about it, but it’s a fact. Another reason refs [...]
Minnesota Wild right wing Cal Clutterbuck connected with a punch on Thursday, but not with the intended target.
While tangling with Maxim Lapierre in front of the Vancouver Canucks' bench, Clutterbuck's blind punch belted linesman Darren Gibbs in the face.
Gibbs took a step back as he attempted to subdue the fighters, but continued his efforts to control the situation....
It’s the video the giant herd of sports bloggers are gagging on this morning so we’ll just get this out of the way. Cal Clutterbuck drilled a ref during a brawl last night with Vancouver’s Maxim Lapierre. Bloggers are pretty much destroying their keyboards with human excrement so if you’ve already seen this we’re so friggin’ sorry.
Anyway, Clutterbuck, a huge hero of...
Linesman deserve hazard pay. We've always felt this way, given how often they put themselves in harm's way during hockey fights.
We feel even more strongly about it after Thursday night's game between the Minnesota Wild and the Vancouver Canucks, in which linesman Darren Gibbs was punched in the face twice accidentally by Cal Clutterbuck has he wrestled with Maxim Lapierre...
Errant punches from Minnesota Wild player Cal Clutterbuck hit
linesman in face
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The fight between Minnesota's Cal Clutterbuck and Vancouver's Maxim Lapierre was intense enough to get an official involved.
Clutterbuck was tied up with Lapierre in front of the Canucks bench late in Thursday's game when the Wild forward swung blindly and inadvertently hit linesman Darren Gibbs in the face instead of Lapierre. ...
It’s not easy being an NHL official, especially when you’re called upon to break up a fight between two players in 40-pounds of hockey equipment as they swing wildly at each other. Things get a bit crazy, and if you’re not careful, you can end up taking an inadvertent shot to the face. Or two, like linesman Darren Gibbs did in last night’s Vancouver/Minnesota tilt.
Cal Clutterbuck of the Minnesota Wild attempts to hit Maxim Lapierre of the Vancouver Canucks but his punch is a bit misguided and connects with the face of linesman Darren Gibbs.
Both players received 10 minute misconducts and Clutterbuck asked after the game, (via Michael Russo tweet) I’m too worked up to comment. What could I do?” referring to defending self from Lapierre

Nothing better than seeing an official or referee get run over in football or punched in the face during a hockey brawl! You can thank me later!
Cal Clutterbuck is going to be dishing out the bucks in order to pay the fine for that left hook!
