Being only 13 days away from the start of the Washington Capitals’ season opener against the Carolina Hurricanes, it is quite clear that defenseman John Erskine will not participate in any preseason games. Erskine, who is still recovering from off-season shoulder surgery, has yet to be cleared for any contact whatsoever. However, Erskine has been participating throughout the duration of the Capitals training camp. Erskine has been wearing a no-contact jersey during the practices and his status heading into the regular season is put as ‘cloudy’ for the time being. While I really wouldn’t mind seeing John Erskine sit out the beginning of the season, he could potentially be a key player on the Capitals roster this season. He has never been one of my favorite Capitals defensemen, but he deserves credit for being a solid d-man in the NHL.
