Pittsburgh Penguins star Evgeni Malkin was recently placed on the Injured Reserve after sustaining a concussion from a hit by Erik Gudbranson. Malkin has been cleared to practice but not for contact and had some fun at the end of a recent practice. Malkin flipped a puck straight up in the air from center ice and it landed directly in the puck bucket. To put the puck into a bucket that small from that far away is simply incredible. Hopefully Malkin will be cleared to play again soon. [YouTube]

John Buccigross tweeted this out. According to the guy who posted it, he stopped by the rink and filmed this today?
It is ****** video, but Malkin puts a puck in a bag sitting upright from way past mid-ice. Also, he did this with a concussion.
Dan Potash was on the Penguin’s bench reporting for Root Sports when Joe Vitale intentionally sprayed him with ice and gave him a snow dusting while on camera. Potash took the snow shower in stride when the Tampa Bay Lightning took on the Pittsburgh Penguins. This isn’t the first time Potash has been blasted by Vitale. It seems they have a running gag between the two. It also...
At least that's the case according to some particular "fancy stats."
Via the Sporting News:
Who's the most valuable player on the Pittsburgh Penguins? Is it the face of the NHL, Sidney Crosby? Is it the league's reigning MVP, Evgeni Malkin? How about goal machine James Neal?
According to Michael Schuckers, an associate professor of statistics at...
As the Penguins get set to face the Carolina Hurricanes tonight for the first time since the trade last Summer that sent Jordan Staal to Carolina and returned to the Penguins Brandon Sutter and Brian Dumoulin and the draft pick that allowed them to select Derek Pouliot.
Let’s take a quick look at how both sides have fared in this trade so far:
Carolina has played 18 games, has...
So much for being excited about Tomas Vokoun. Vokoun laid his second straight egg in less than a week. If you want to pay someone to **** up, Brent Johnson was half the cost. Vokoun's spent so much time on his back lately, the grandma from Life Alert is worried about her job security.
The Pens didn't do him any favors, though. The Pens took a million penalties...
Jordan Staal, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Marc-Andre Fleury, Bill Guerin and Chris Kunitz all won a Stanley Cup together. And then the skated into the sunset, destined to dominate the world of...corporate finance.
Via Reddit via Harrison Mooney comes the above image (full-sized here) of some corporate finance textbook. I can't really come up with many talking points about...
Pittsburgh Penguins (13-7-0) @ Carolina Hurricanes (9-8-1)

With Evgeni Malkin injured, Brandon Sutter has had to step up and move outside of his typical third line center role. Jordan Staal knows a thing or two about that situation. Tonight the Pittsburgh Penguins face Jordan Staal for the first time...
So this is how Geno responds to being placed on IR retroactive to his flying into the boards all whiplash-y? Because I can get down with this.
Evgeni Malkin decided to win Twitter today by uploading video of a casual little center ice flip shot into a basket in front of the goal line. Because that's what guys with scary concussions do.
I uploaded a version to Youtube...
Last night's 4-1 win over the Penguins is one of those games that fans won't want to nit-pick at because it was such a strong performance by the entire team. The top two lines played great, Cam ward played great, the PK was the strongest it's been all season and the Canes did an excellent job of containing the Penguins at even strength. That all led to an impressive win...
Jordan Staal and the Hurricanes knew who was coming over and had the tea ready. It wasn't a good time.
The Penguins aren't a bad team. They just aren't very good right now. In what was somewhat of a big game, the Pens let the Canes score two crushing goals at the end of the first and second periods.
There's not much that can be done at this point. Getting...
from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,
The talk has increased in the last few days as the schedule hits the halfway point and teams are starting to get desperate to make moves. Sources say the Rangers, Flames and Philadelphia Flyers are among those making phone calls.
"Teams are thinking they've got to do something now if they're going to stand a chance,"...
