A couple of hours ago, Hockey Buzz Eklund (@Eklund) said via Twitter that the Philadelphia Flyers and defenseman Kimmo Timonen have reached an agreement on a one-year extension worth about $6 million.
An hour after the first tweet was sent out, Flyers beat writer for the Philadelphia Daily News, Frank Seravalli, responded saying that, "Paul Holmgren says in a text message that rumor from @Eklund about a one-year Kimmo Timonen contract extension is "not true."
So what news is correct?
Well, Flyers insider, Tim Panaccio, responded to both tweets with a tweet of his own that confirmed one of the stories.
Here is the tweet from Panaccio:
"CONFIRMED: Flyers are close to re-signing Timomen to a 1-yr deal worth $6 million. Expect an announcement before end of week"
It looks as if Timonen will be in orange and black for the remainder of the 2012-2013 season and for the entire 2013-2014 season. Despite getting older, Timonen is still an offensive presence and is a great clubhouse guy for the Flyers.
