A fan who tossed a banana at Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds during an exhibition game has been fined $200.
Christopher Moorhouse lobbed a banana at Simmonds, who is black, as he was preparing to participate in a shootout against the Detroit Red Wings on Sept. 22 in London, Ontario.
Moorhouse, 26, pleaded guilty on Monday and was also charged with provincial trespassing and given 90 days to pay the fine.
His lawyer, Faisal Joseph, said that Moorhouse didn't know hurling bananas at black athletes could be seen as hateful.
