A fan who threw a banana at a black player during an NHL exhibition game has been fined $200. Christopher Moorhouse lobbed a banana at Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds as he was approaching Detroit Red Wings goalie Jordan Pearce during a shootout in the Sept. 22 game in London, Ontario. The 26-year-old Moorhouse pleaded guilty Monday but did not appear in court. Moorhouse was charged charged with a provincial trespassing and given 90 days to pay the fine. Police said there wasn't enough evidence to charge Moorhouse with a hate crime. Moorhouse's lawyer, Faisal Joseph, has said his client didn't know hurling bananas at black athletes could be seen as hateful.

NHL: Philadelphia Flyers Midseason Report: Looking at their Offseason Moves

The halfway mark of the 2011-2012 NHL season is just a few days away, so it's time to look at the Philadelphia Flyers' progress after an eventful offseason. The Flyers currently have the third most points in the Eastern...

Tim Panaccio: Defensive Collapse

Though the Flyers had an "OFF" today it was anything but. Peter Laviolette held class at the team's hotel in Raleigh in one of the ball rooms. They watched film. Mostly, Lavy told me, they watched clips of the mistakes they made against Ottawa. When I walked out of Scotiabank Place last night with Bruce Garrioch, I said to another writer, 'we'll see you...

Bobrovsky Key to Flyers 2-1 Win Against Hurricanes

I hate, hate, hate the expression “goalie controversy,” and yet here we are. Peter Laviolette opted to start Ilya Brygalov in net on Sunday night after a strong performance the day before. Six goals and a “loss” later, and the team turned to Sergei Bobrovsky once again to right the ship. In a game in which [...]
