There was something lost in all this Ilya Bryzgalov talk and that of course would be Kari Lehtonen.  Sure Bryzgalov has a shutout streak that seems to keep going at around ten periods or so, Lehtonen quietly plays on a team that faces a ton of shots and high quality chances.  Not all numbers are created equal as we know and right now it just seems that Dallas cannot lose, similar to what Mike Smith and Phoenix pulled off in February.  Will Dallas and Lehtonen crumble?  The answer seems to be not quite yet. Overall, there were lots of good fantasy results last night in the NHL.  Who was the Fantasy POTN?  Now seems like a good idea to find out. ============================================== FANTASY POTN: Kari Lehtonen, G, Dallas Stars -- Yes it was against Minnesota, I know I know.  However a 25 save road shutout gets the nod just barely on one of those nights where there just seemed to be a little more balanced scoring than expected. Does anyone even realize tha...

Flyers G Bryzgalov records third straight shutout

Ilya Bryzgalov recorded his third straight shutout and fourth in five games by turning aside 17 shots as the host Philadelphia Flyers regained sole possession of fifth place in the Eastern Conference with a 3-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. Jakub Voracek scored in his return from a head injury and rookie Sean Couturier tallied for just the second time in 24 contests...

Todd Cordell: Easy Bryzy: Bryzgalov and the Flyers shutout the Devils 3-0

Last night Ilya Bryzgalov shutout the New Jersey Devils in Philadelphia. It was Bryzgalov's fourth shutout over his past five starts. Here are some notes on last night's game, the Devils scoring depth and more. - Last night's Devils / Flyers game was a perfect example of one team just wanting it more. Unfortunately for New Jersey, it was their opponents that wanted...

Stars ride Lehtonen to a six game winning streak

Final Dallas 1 - Minnesota 0 It certainly wasn't very pretty, but the Dallas Stars have now won a season high six straight games. The difference in this game once again was the stellar performance of Kari Lehtonen, who stopped 25 of 25 shots en route to his second straight shutout and fourth of the season, tying a career high. The game last night got off to a frustratingly...

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: 3/16/12

The record-setting performance of Ilya Bryzgalov and the jump shown by the Flyers' top line were the highlights of last night's otherwise nondescript 3-2 road win in Long Island. Philly did not play as well on a sustained basis as it did in Tuesday's 3-0 home win over the Devils, but the team did enough to skate away with two points in the first segment of their 3-game...

Bryz gets third straight shutout in win over Devils

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Flyers signed Ilya Bryzgalov to a huge contract last summer in hopes he would end their goaltending problems. Right now, he’s play even better than they could have expected. Bryzgalov, the reigning First Star of the Week, stopped 17 shots for his third straight shutout and fourth in five games as the Flyers blanked New Jersey 3-0 on Tuesday night...

Not So Hot: Devils Fall to Flyers

The New Jersey Devils fell to the Philadelphia Flyers in the second game of a home-and-home series tonight by a score of 3-0. After a strong defensive first period, the Devils had a hard time getting anything going offensively. Flyers' goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov collected his fourth shutout in five games; the Flyers now sit alone in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with 87...

Flyers-Islanders Preview

The Philadelphia Flyers have been hot of late, largely due to the exceptional play of goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. His history against the New York Islanders hasn't been as good, however. Bryzgalov will likely be in net as he seeks a franchise-record fourth consecutive shutout when Philadelphia looks for its sixth straight victory at Nassau Coliseum on Thursday night. The Flyers...

Just when Stars seemed out, they rallied

Three weeks ago the Dallas Stars were the subject of trade rumors as they dealt with injuries. They were uncertain about the future and on the outside looking in when it came to the playoff picture. Today they are the object of praise as they sit in first place in the Pacific Division. They were riding a five-game winning streak and a 10-game point surge heading into Tuesday'...

Stars' run rests on pads of goaltenders

It was almost a month ago when the season seemed dead and gone. I will be the first to admit that I did not think the Dallas Stars had much chance of reviving their 2011-12 and figuring out a way to challenge hard for the playoffs for the first time in four years. You'll have to forgive my pessimism, but at the time, two straight wins was a rarity and three straight? Nearly impossible...

Stars shut out Wild 1-0

Jamie Benn's goal early in the third period and Kari Lehtonen's second consecutive shutout gave the Dallas Stars their sixth straight victory, 1-0 over the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday night. Benn scored for the third time in four games to give him 21 this season. He snagged a rink-wide pass from Brendan Morrow that glanced off Wild left wing Stephane Veilleux's stick and...
