I honestly believe Scott Gomez will get his hockey career back on track with the move out West as the newest member of the San Jose Sharks. Fantasy hockey owners should play close attention to Scott Gomez over the next several weeks. If at any time Gomez looks as though he has any of the old skill from his New Jersey days I will be jumping all over him as a hockey pool pick.  What makes Scott Gomez so enticing to me as a fantasy hockey option, is that his new role with the San Jose Sharks is the perfect fit; the regular third line center with power-play opportunity on one of the deepest offensive teams in the National Hockey League.I mean, this is a player who will have the opportunity to play with Ryane Clowe on a nightly basis, and has displayed the ability to put up between 60 and 70 points in an 82 game schedule with skilled players around him.In addition, Scott Gomez is a hockey player desperate to prove he can still play at an elite level. For $700,000 on a one-year term I thin...

Scott Gomez is really getting to know his new Sharks teammates

Scott Gomez signed with the Sharks on Wednesday and had already been practicing with the team a handful of days before that. So, the newest Shark has had some time to get to know his new teammates. I’m sure a lot of it has to do with building chemistry on the ice, such as understanding the tendencies of Tommy Wingels and T.J. Galiardi, his potential mates on the third line. Or...

Former Canadiens C Gomez signs with Sharks

The San Jose Sharks signed center Scott Gomez to a one-year contract worth a reported $700,000 on Wednesday. Gomez had spent the past week working out and meeting with the Sharks. He could be slotted on San Jose's third line and the second power-play unit, ESPN.com reported. The Montreal Canadiens bought out Gomez's contract last week. He received a pro-rated $5.5 million...

Scott Gomez signs 1-year deal with Sharks

Veteran center Scott Gomez and the Sharks came to terms on a contract on Wednesday, an expected move several days in the making. The one-year deal is reportedly worth $700,000. To make room for Gomez on the 23-man roster, the Sharks placed Brent Burns on the injured reserve. Gomez, 33, had been working out with the Sharks since the weekend and accompanied the team on their recent...

What’s got in to Patrick Marleau?

Brad Stuart predicted this. Yesterday, David Pollak published some quotes from Brad Stuart about his career and about the Sharks, what he saw while he was here the first time, and what he saw playing against San Jose later.  One of those answers might explain this mind-boggling start from Team Teal: Pollak: "...wasn’t last year a step backward?" Stuart: ...

SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed unrestricted free agent center Scott Gomez to a one-year deal. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Gomez, 33, posted 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in 38 games with Montreal in 2011-12. This season, he spent 11...

Scott Gomez tries to resurrect his career with San Jose

The Scott Gomez comeback starts now. Gomez has signed a one-year, $700,000 pro-rated deal with the San Jose Sharks, as reported by ESPN's Pierre LeBrun. His deal comes just a handful of days after Wade Redden, his partner in bloated contracts that required buyouts, signed a deal with the St. Louis Blues. Now that Gomez is back in an active NHL role and playing under a reasonable...

Sharks score six 1st period vs. Oilers

The San Jose Sharks' top line is already peaking just two games into the NHL's lockout-delayed season. Patrick Marleau had two goals and an assist and Joe Thornton had three assists as the Sharks won their second in a row, beating Edmonton 6-3 on Tuesday night to spoil the Oilers' home opener. Logan Couture also had two goals and an assist, and Marc-Edouard Vlasic and...

Marleau scores twice, as usual, as Sharks rally past Coyotes

SAN JOSE -- Patrick Marleau is out to change his reputation as a notoriously slow starter during this lockout-shortened season. For the third consecutive game to start the season, Marleau scored two goals, the latest pair in dramatic fashion as the Sharks rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the final half of the third period for a 5-3 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday night. ...

Sharks 5, Coyotes 3

Patrick Marleau scored the tiebreaking goal with 1:53 remaining for his third straight two-goal game, helping the San Jose Sharks rally from a two-goal deficit to beat the Phoenix Coyotes 5-3 in their home opener Thursday night. Logan Couture and Marty Havlat also scored and Joe Thornton had three assists and an empty-net goal for the Sharks, who have opened the season with three...

Cam Gore: Sharks win home opener in dramatic style

The Sharks couldn’t have scripted it any better tonight in their home opener against the Phoenix Coyotes as they defied the odds in a dramatic come from behind victory. Patrick Marleau’s second goal of the game was the game winner and it came with less than two minutes to play in the third period. Marleau received a Joe Thornton pass on his backhand and got the puck...

Sharks crush Oilers behind six-goal first period

EDMONTON -- The San Jose Sharks are made up of some rather old dogs, but they managed to teach Edmonton's celebrated young pups some new tricks Tuesday. The Sharks rolled up a newspaper and smacked the Oilers in the nose, scoring six goals in the first period of a 6-3 rout at Rexall Place. "We got off to a good start," said Sharks coach Todd McLellan, whose club...

Avalanche-Sharks Preview

San Jose Sharks coach Todd McLellan is pleased that his team's offense is clicking. His whole team has generally been on top of its game in recent years against the Colorado Avalanche. The unbeaten Sharks look to continue their early success Saturday as they try for a seventh straight overall win against the Avalanche and a ninth consecutive regular-season series victory at...
