from Don Brennan of Off The Posts at the Ottawa Sun, Bryan Murray says now that the Senators are not likely to re-sign Filip Kuba.
This is not surprising. This is not a ploy. This is a sound business decision.
Teammates would like to see the big defenceman return. He’s a popular guy, they say. He’s good for the power play, they insist. He has immensely helped Erik Karlsson become the player he became, we are told.
He can be replaced, I believe. For much less money.
In a non-cap world with all sorts of money to blow, they might offer Kuba similar money or even a raise on his $3.7 million salary to secure him before he tests the free agent market. But the reality is, that’s too much coin for a guy who is coming off a six goal season that was his highest total in four years with the team.

Joining us this week was the man responsible for breaking the Kuba news, the Ottawa Citizen's Wayne Scanlan. I have no...
Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray tells Bruce Garrioch of the Toronto Sun that he plans to have more serious contract talks with pending restricted free agent defenseman Erik Karlsson.
We’ll get started within the next week, if not earlier. We’ll get an idea what their thoughts are. We’ll do the same and then get some work done here.
While the club has had some...
While fans of the Los Angeles Kings and New Jersey Devils are excitedly consumed by the fact that their favorite teams are only a few wins away from hockey's greatest prize, the rest of us are doing our best to distract ourselves through the immersed discussion of what it will take to improve our favorite teams this offseason. Here in Ottawa, that means penning articles...
