Finland veteran Teemu Selanne has been selected to play at his sixth Winter Olympics. The 43-year-old Anaheim Ducks player has twice been the top scorer at the Olympics and was chosen as the best player at the Turin Games in 2006. Another veteran, Saku Koivu, won't be part of the team after telling Finland coach Erkka Westerlund that he doesn't feel in good enough shape to play at the Olympics. His younger brother Mikku Koivu, was on the squad presented Tuesday, as was Minnesota Wild team mate Mikael Granlund. Kari Lehtonon of the Dallas Stars, Tuukka Rask of the Boston Bruins, and Antti Niemi of the San Jose Sharks will be Finland's goaltenders in Sochi. Finland was the bronze medalist at the 2010 Olympics and silver medalist four years earlier.

Finland Olympic team: Teemu Selanne returns for sixth Olympics

Among those headed to Sochi is Teemu Selanne, who will make his sixth trip to the Olympics for Finland. According to the IIHF, he will become just the second person to ever do that in ice hockey. Ducks top Bruins as hot streak continues

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- For at least one night, the Anaheim Ducks are the best team in the league. But should they continue to play the way they have been, that reign could last longer. The Ducks are continually finding ways to win and Monday night at the Honda Center was no different. The Bruins, second-best team in the Eastern Conference, controlled much of the game but you would never...

Anaheim Ducks: Ryan Getzlaf’s Hart trophy campaign

When Ryan Getzlaf scored 91 points in the 2008-09 season he did so with such dominance and flair that most of us expected he’d continue to finish top five in NHL scoring for years to come, and maybe even win…Read more →The post Anaheim Ducks: Ryan Getzlaf’s Hart trophy campaign appeared first on The Hockey Daily.

Steve Palumbo: Are We Excited Yet? Ducks and Hiller Win Again!

The 2013-14 Anaheim Ducks season is turning into something more than just the celebration of 20 years of hockey in Disneyland's back yard. It's becoming a story so unbelievable not even Walt Disney himself could have dreamed it up. Led by Jonas Hiller and a ridiculously packed and loud crowd, the Ducks survived another sluggish first period to take care of the Eastern...

Corey Perry lifts Ducks past Vancouver, 4-3, in overtime

The Ducks' ability to time their goals dramatically Sunday allowed them to extend their unbeaten-in-regulation home winning streak and beat the Vancouver Canucks. "Those things are what character teams are made of," forward Corey Perry said after slipping a shot under goalie Eddie Lack with 1.3 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Ducks a 4-3 victory. Overtime...

Advantage to Ducks Over Bruins

The Anaheim Ducks remain the NHL's top team and appear almost unbeatable at home.  Their latest win was a 5-2 effort over the Boston Bruins that extends their home streak to 18-0-2. Even scarier than their unbeaten home streak is that their power play has started to click again.   Pay no attention to the stat sheet - Anaheim is #22 out of 30 teams with a tepid 16.2% success...

Ty Anderson: Hellnight, Part I: B's in Anaheim

19 games have come and gone at the Honda Center in 2013-14, and all of them have ended with the hometown Anaheim Ducks earning at least one point. The Ducks have skated off as the victors in 17 of those 19, no less. But tonight, Zdeno Chara and the Boston Bruins kick off their three-game California trip with their sights set on playing the role of homewrecker. But it’s going...

Ducks-Predators Preview

Anaheim Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said he's been impressed that Jonas Hiller has not turned in a "clunker" during the goaltender's club-record win streak. Hiller has had more than a few of those against the Nashville Predators. He figures to get tested if he gets the start Thursday night against the Predators as the visiting Ducks look for a fifth straight victory...

Bruins’ Recent Penalty Killing Struggles Continue in Loss to High-Flying Ducks

The Bruins had to have known that they were in for quite the test on Tuesday night against the Anaheim Ducks. Facing arguably the best team in the league in its home rink — where the Ducks haven’t lost in regulation all season — the B’s were likely for looking every advantage they could get. The seemingly obvious advantage the Bruins had against the surging Ducks was in special...
