Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Multiple New Jersey Devils players have already been named to their national team for the 2024 IIHF Mens World Championships, whether officially or on a tryout basis.

Luke Hughes is an official member of Team USA and Dawson Mercer is with Team Canada. Meanwhile, Alexander Holtz is on a tryout with Team Sweden.

Jesper Bratt was invited to play for Sweden, however, he turned down the invitation.

On breakup day a few weeks ago, multiple other Devils players explained they were hoping to play at the World Tournament, however, were unsure of what their offseason plans were at the time.

On Monday morning, five more players were officially named to their national rosters across two teams.

Playing for Team Switzerland, Devils captain Nico Hischier, defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler, and goaltender Akira Schmid have entered the tournament.

Timo Meier explained he was considering playing for Team Switzerland a few weeks back, however, he opted to undergo elective arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder and is recovering for next season.

Playing for Team Czechia — who are also hosting this year’s tournament — are forwards Ondrej Palat and Tomas Nosek.

The Devils’ trio make up 3/4 of NHLers that occupy Switzerland’s roster, joined by Chicago Blackhawks forward Philipp Kurashev.

Palat and Nosek are two of 10 NHLers that will skate for the host country, Czechia, including three goaltenders Petr Mrazek, Lukas Dostal, and Karel Vejmelka.

Team Switzerland will play Holtz and Team Sweden & Team Czechia will face Team Finland on Thursday at the Betano Games, which are warmup exhibition games for the impending tournament.

The IIHF Mens World Championship tournament begins on Friday, May 10th. Team Switzerland will open the tournament against Team Norway and Team Czechia will face Team Finland again in an official game.

Team Sweden and Team USA will also face each other on the opening day of the tournament.
