Calgary Flames center Mikael Backlund suffered a broken finger in practice and is expected to miss up to six weeks of action.
Backlund, 22, was injured during Sunday's practice and will have surgery to have a pin inserted into his left pinkie.
The 24th overall pick of the 2007 draft, Backlund collected 10 goals and 15 assists in 73 games last season.
Backlund recorded one goal and three assists during the preseason.
