Goalie controversy in Philly?

Despite having signed Ilya Bryzgalov to a nine-year, $51 million contract over the offseason, the Flyers have a tough situation brewing with backup Sergei Bobrovsky playing lights out.

Rob Simpson: Giroux Shows A Lot of Hart

It wasn’t unexpected: Many of us suggested 23-year-old Claude Giroux would breakout to another level this season and start to become a household name in the NHL. We didn’t necessarily predict he’d be in the Hart Trophy conversation a quarter of the way through the season. “It’s one thing to be a top player on your team, but when you start talking about...

Laviolette Has Big Goalie Decision To Make

After Sergei Bobrovsky made 23 saves on Wednesday night, he might force the coach to give him the start on Friday against Montreal. Read more at Philly Sports Daily

Giroux Scores Two As Flyers Beat Habs

Claude Giroux continued his dominant play as the Flyers took care of business at the Wells Fargo Center on their way to a 3-1 victory. Sergei Bobrovsky got the start as Laviolette went with the hot hand. Full highlights of the win are after the jump.

Claude Giroux Making A Name For Himself

AP By DUSTIN LEED Sports Writer At the 2006 National Hockey League entry draft in Vancouver, former Flyers general manager Bob Clarke took the stage to announce who his team selected with the 22nd overall pick. Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: 11/24/11

Successful third period comebacks have not been a recent Flyers specialty. With their comeback win in overtime over the New York Islanders last night, Philly has now won twice in 29 tries since the start of last season (1-6-0 this season, 1-16-5 last year) when trailing after two periods. Frankly, the Flyers probably wouldn't have won this one, either, if Sergei Bobrovsky...

Claude Giroux had two goals, backup Sergei Bobrovsky made 23 saves and the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 on Friday. Jakub Voracek also scored for the Flyers, who got all of their offense in the second period. Bobrovsky improved to 5-1-1. Giroux now has 29 points (13 goals, 16 assists) on the season.

Black Friday With the Flyers

One of my favorite Flyers traditions is their annual afternoon Black Friday game. This year played at 3pm, the Flyers will play the Montreal Canadiens in their second matchup of the season. The teams last played in Montreal was near the end of October. The Canadiens scapegoated assistant coach Perry Pearn before the game after the Habs won just 1 of their first 8 games. Whatever...

Tempers Flare As Rangers Beat Flyers 2-0

The always physical matchup definitely started off with a bang. Four seconds into the game, Zac Rinaldo and Brandon Prust dropped the gloves. Avery and Simmonds had words as well, which is not surprising due to their previous incident. Sergei Bobrovsky started his second straight game, a clear message from the coaching staff to Bryzgalov to get his act together. Full video highlight...

In a class of his own

The first glimpse of Claude Giroux's superstar status came March 14, 2010, in the waning seconds of a game against the Chicago Blackhawks.   As time was ticking down in regulation, Giroux flipped a picture-perfect saucer pass over two Black...

Canadiens-Flyers Preview

Although the Philadelphia Flyers were finally able to rally and win after facing another early deficit in their last game, their No. 1 goaltender had another shaky performance. It is unclear who will be in goal for the Flyers on Friday when they host a Montreal Canadiens team that handed them their most lopsided loss of the season last month. Trailing the last-place New York Islanders...

Pregame: Rangers Return Home to Face Flyers

There's no better way to celebrate a victory against a top opponent than playing the very next day against yet another top opponent. This is especially the case when those opponents are the Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers; currently the Rangers' two biggest rivals in the Eastern Conference in my opinion. The Blueshirts got back on track with a 6-3 win over the...
