Claude Giroux scored his eighth goal of the season just 17 seconds into the second period of the Flyers' 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres.
It was the easiest of opponents the Flyers would face this week, but they still didn't make it look easy.
Despite dominating much of the early play, the Flyers had to constantly fight off the Sabres. Buffalo proved to be a tough test. But the Flyers ultimately showed that the season is far from over by securing two very important points and snapping a three-game losing streak, beating the Sabres, 3-2.
The Flyers opened the scoring just 4:31 into the first. Simon Gagne took a brilliant pass from Kimmo Timonen in on Ryan Miller and beat him through the five-hole to give the Flyers the early lead. It was Gagne's second goal of the season.
Four minutes later at the 8:47 mark, the Flyers scored shorthanded as Max Talbot completed a nice two-on-one rush with Ruslan Fedotenko by getting his second goal of the season.
The Sabres would cut...

The hit that Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds delivered to Tyler Ennis wasn’t a dirty or malicious one, even though it was from behind. The Buffalo Sabres forward was merely trying to turn and protect the puck, and he turned as Simmonds was hitting him. It was a bang-bang play and Simmonds didn’t have time to react. The referees were not going to call a penalty...
After just three full seasons with the Broad Street Bullies, center Claude Giroux was named captain, replacing grizzled veteran Chris Pronger.
Giroux joins a long list of Flyers great to covet the C. There’s even a former Bruin among those to once hold the title of Flyers captain. Can you name the former Bruins forward who also served as Flyers captain from 1984-89?
It was a week that had Flyers fans pumped up and ready to go. The boys had finally gotten back to .500, and were set to have a week full of rivalries, matching up against the Rangers, Penguins, and Bruins all in one week. Unfortunately, this week that Philly looked so forward to became a disaster, and quick. After a 4-2 loss to New York at MSG, the Flyers took a commanding 4-1 lead...
For the first time this season the Bruins are going up against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Bruins and Flyers have had bad blood in the playoffs more than the regular season. In 2010 the Flyers came back from a 0-3 series defecit to beat the Bruins. The next year during the 2011 cup run the Bruins swept the Flyers in 4.
So far this season the Flyers are 11-13-1 and tied for...
Some of you may have planned on watching the Walking Dead after the Flyers brutal 3-0 loss on Saturday. The Flyers were losers of three straight games, registering a loss against the Rangers, Penguins and Bruins. On Sunday night, the orange and black faced off against the Buffalo Sabres.
Buffalo with a 9-13-3 record, is a mere 3-5-2 in their last ten games. The Flyers are coming...
The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 last night, bring their season record to 12-14-1 and their record in the month of March to 2-3-0. With the team starved for wins and points -- and with the Flyers having played more games than any other club in the NHL -- they will gladly take the two points from last night.
However, the Flyers did little last night to inspire...
NHLTags: Peter LavioletteThe term “statement week” was thrown around after the Philadelphia Flyers won their second game in a row against the Ottawa Senators.
Facing top Eastern Conference opponents in the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins, the Flyers could build off their recent success and gain some much needed...
(photo by Jared Wickerham/Getty Images) One of the most important weeks of the season for the Philadelphia Flyers has not gone too well. After losing in New York to the Rangers on Tuesday and blowing a lead at home against the Penguins on Thursday, the Flyers headed to Boston to take on the Bruins. Both [...]
With 27 games played to date, the Philadelphia Flyers have played more games this season than any other team in the NHL. That is bad news when the team is already mired in 11th place in the Eastern Conference and is three points behind the eighth-ranked New York Rangers (who have played 24 games).
When a team that entered the season expecting to be playoff contenders has already...
Detroit Cass Tech 2015 running back Mike Weber talks about his visit to Michigan on Sunday. Also, the Cass Tech standout discusses his in depth thoughts on Michigan, what he likes about their program, what he’s looking for in his future college school, his decision timeline and more.
Well, there's another disappointing game from the Buffalo Sabres.
If we're going to have a horrible season, at least it's a shortened one. I don't know if I could go 82 games watching a team play like this.
I just shake my head every time I see the "power play" for Buffalo. It is absolutely horrendous. They can rarely get in the zone and get it set...
Tonight will be the first time the Rangers and Sabres meet since this...

“It (ticks) you off, it gets you angry. It’s a cheap hit. The biggest thing is you do want to hurt them, you want to make them feel that. We were able to get two, but it doesn’t do that kind of...
Coming off of three straight losses and, in my opinion, five straight dismal periods of play, there is a lot of work to be done by the struggling Flyers (11-14-1). Entering into tonight’s contest with Buffalo, who recently lost long-time head coach Lindy Ruff (9-13-3), the Flyers sit in the 11th Eastern Conference placeholder on [...]
