Chris Pronger hasn’t touched the ice for the Philadelphia Flyers since Nov. 19, 2011. Pronger suffers from post-concussion syndrome after he endured three separate hits that season. He talked with Glen Macnow and Rob Ellis on WIP in Philadelphia how his medical struggle affects his daily life.  “Basically, I’m just trying to get healthy. I don’t think there needs to be anything other than me trying to get healthy just to live a normal life,” Pronger said. The 38-year-old defenseman said he wouldn’t rule out playing again if it were physically possible, but he plans to take it one step at a time. “ My goal and my purpose right now is just to try to get as healthy as I can get, try to get my vision back to where it can be or should be and kind of go from there.” Pronger said he has made improvements in his physical ability since sustaining his last head injury. “I can function at a lot higher rate or higher level, he said. “Before, I guess there was probably a five- or six-month

Visor debate heats up in NHL

Chris Pronger's sad descent from All-Star defenseman to bedridden days in dark rooms to ease throbbing headaches and occasional bouts of depression can be traced to one wayward stick to his right eye. Pronger lost his peripheral vision. He can't run, or even skate hard. The former Philadelphia Flyers' star who keyed the team's run to the 2010 Stanley Cup finals has...

Did The Flyers Trade The Wrong Goalie?

from Sam Carchidi of Broad Steet Bull, When general manager Paul Holmgren sent backup goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to Columbus for three draft picks last June, not many eyebrows were raised. Bobrovsky had seen little time behind Ilya Bryzgalov. But with the strike-shortened season more than halfway over, Bobrovsky has emerged as the NHL’s hottest goaltender. On Monday,...

Flyers bounce back, hold off Sabres

Claude Giroux scored his eighth goal of the season just 17 seconds into the second period of the Flyers' 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres. It was the easiest of opponents the Flyers would face this week, but they still didn't make it look easy. Despite dominating much of the early play, the Flyers had to constantly fight off the Sabres. Wayne Simmonds tunes up Mike Weber in fight after crushing Tyler Ennis

The hit that Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds delivered to Tyler Ennis wasn’t a dirty or malicious one, even though it was from behind.  The Buffalo Sabres forward was merely trying to turn and protect the puck, and he turned as Simmonds was hitting him.  It was a bang-bang play and Simmonds didn’t have time to react.  The referees were not going to call a penalty...

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Contenders or Pretenders?

The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 last night, bring their season record to 12-14-1 and their record in the month of March to 2-3-0. With the team starved for wins and points -- and with the Flyers having played more games than any other club in the NHL -- they will gladly take the two points from last night. However, the Flyers did little last night to inspire...

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: What's Working/Not Working After 27 Games?

With 27 games played to date, the Philadelphia Flyers have played more games this season than any other team in the NHL. That is bad news when the team is already mired in 11th place in the Eastern Conference and is three points behind the eighth-ranked New York Rangers (who have played 24 games). When a team that entered the season expecting to be playoff contenders has already...
