The Philadelphia Flyers have claimed forward Kieffer Bellows on waivers from the New York Islanders.

Bellows, 24, has spent his entire NHL career with the Islanders, recording 11 goals and 25 points in 68 games over four seasons. Bellows played just one game with New York this season, recording 7:16 of ice time against Florida in a 3-1 loss on Oct. 13.

Bellows was taken 19th overall by the Islanders in 2016 but failed to become an effective everyday fixture with the club. Bellows had a career-high 19 points last year, but spent more of his pro career in the AHL with Bridgeport.

If the Islanders believe Bellows can be effective in a reclamation role, he’ll have an opportunity to make a spark in the bottom six. Bellows was once a notable top prospect, scoring 41 goals and 74 points with the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks before turning pro. He was incredibly dominant during the 2018 World Junior Championship, scoring nine goals en route to a bronze medal.

Bobby Brink, Patrick Brown, Sean Couturier and Cam Atkinson are among the forwards currently out for the Flyers.
