Flyers coach Peter Laviolette was fined $10,000 Monday after calling out counterpart Dan Bylsma for sending out his checking line late in Philadelphia's 6-3 win at Pittsburgh on Sunday. Penguins assistant Tony Granato, who stepped on the top of the side boards and in between the two head coaches, was also fined $2,500. The incident occurred at 18:57 of the third period. Fine money will go to the NHL Foundation. Laviolette was upset that the Penguins' fourth line took a shift shortly after Jakub Voracek's empty-net goal concluded the scoring. During the shift, Penguins forward Joe Vitale leveled Flyers center Daniel Briere shortly after the ensuing faceoff, starting a chain of events that included Laviolette smashing a stick over the glass.

Flyers’ Scott Hartnell Taunts Hulk Hogan Look-alike

Philadelphia Flyers’ Scott Hartnell was the toast of social media after he taunted a Pittsburgh fan during the Flyers’ 6-4 victory over the Pens on Sunday with a classic taunt and hype move made famous by the former wrestler Hulk Hogan. “To quote the Hulkster himself “Watcha gonna do when the Hulkster runs wild on YOU,”...Read the Rest...

Flyers' Hartnell mocks Hulk Hogan look-a-like fan

Scott Hartnell decided to have a little fun at the expense of a Pittsburgh Penguins' fan on Sunday. During the waning moments of the Philadelphia Flyers' 6-4 victory over their Atlantic Division rival on Sunday, Hartnell mocked the fan - who had a striking resemblance to Hulk Hogan - by doing the former pro wrestler's signature move of cupping his hand to his ear. The...

Scott Hartnell isn't scared of CONSOL

“This is a much different building than the Igloo,” Hartnell said. “You were almost scared coming into the Igloo, people were right on you. And how dumpy the place was, it was tough. I think it’s good we have the confidence to play here. We know in our hearts and our heads we can beat these guys.” [ PHT ]   Hard for Pens fans to defend this statement...

Flyers G Bryzgalov named First Star for month of March

Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov was named the NHL's First Star for the month of March. The Russian posted a 10-2-1 mark with four shutouts and a slim 1.43 goals-against average during the month. He was named the First Star of the Week twice during the stretch. Pittsburgh Penguins stud Evgeni Malkin earned the league's Second Star after collecting 11 goals...

Slow Starts Could Doom Flyers In Playoffs

The Philadelphia Flyers have continued to struggle early, as they fell behind 3-0 yesterday to the Ottawa Senators and 2-0 today to the Pittsburgh Penguins. I have not hidden my disdain for playing less than 60 minutes of hockey in the past, and I will not be changing my tune now. The Flyers seem to have a mentality of not minding digging themselves holes. They often come out flat...

Scott Hartnell Taunts Penguins Fans by Doing Hulk Hogan Impersonation (Video)

Scott Hartnell must be a Wrestlemania fan. An eccentric Penguins fan started a tradition of wearing a fake Hulk Hogan mustache at home games. Only instead of referring to himself as a 'Hulkamaniac, he calls himself a 'Malkamaniac' in reference to star player Evgeni Malkin. During the Flyers-Penguins game on Sunday afternoon, Hartnell decided to have a little fun with...

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: 8 reasons why the Rangers swept season series

The reasons why the Flyers finished their season series against the Rangers with an 0-6-0 record are easy to find. It's the solutions that proved elusive. When you combine all of the following 8 factors, it's no wonder that Philly failed to secure a single point against the Blueshirts this season: 1) The Flyers did not score a single first period goal in any of the six...

Flyers rough up the Pens

This is straight out of the rock em sock em hockey collection. In case you missed it, the playoffs are just around the corner and I think that a potential series between the Flyers and the Penguins could very exciting, but also very explosive and nasty playoff series. The two coaches were fined for the behavior during yesterday's game...

Wayne’s World: Simmonds Embracing Scoring Role in the City of Brotherly Love

Photo Courtesy of Bruce Bennett/Getty Images By Charlie O’Connor (@THG_Charlie) Play physical defense. Face top competition. And chip in with the occasional goal or assist. Those were the duties of Wayne Simmonds during his first three NHL seasons as a member of the Los Angeles Kings. The Philadelphia Flyers, on the other hand, see Simmonds as a far different player. In his first...

Rangers Can Clinch Tonight in Philly

If there was ever a chance for the New York Rangers to upset the Philadelphia Flyers and their fans, tonight is the perfect opportunity. Tonight, the Blueshirts will take on the Flyers in Philadelphia and should the Rangers win, they will clinch both the top spot in the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference. While the Flyers really had no chance at either, it will still more...

Tell It Like It Is Boys

from Tom Jones of the Tampa Bay Times, NBC almost did a great job covering the nasty final few minutes of Sunday’s Flyers-Penguins game. The direction and camera work were first-rate. Viewers didn’t miss a second of the fights on the ice and war of words between the benches. What was missing was stronger analysis from Pierre McGuire and Ed Olczyk. While both teams seemed to...
