Entering the 2011-12 preseason, Philadelphia Flyers forward Eric Wellwood had a legitimate chance to earn a roster spot out of camp.
Instead, the 22-year old found himself back in Adirondack for a second straight season. But following an injury to James van Riemsdyk in early March, Wellwood was given his first extended look...
Tonight’s power play goal for Florida was the first PPG scored against Ilya Bryzgalov since February 25 at Calgary. It was just the third PPG allowed by the Flyers in the last 13 games.
Claude Giroux played a team-high 24:10 tonight, including more than 10 minutes in the first period. He was 17-for-20 (85 percent) on faceoffs.
The Flyers’ 62-percent faceoff...
This happened at the end of the second period. Michalek high sticked Claude Giroux...in the shoulder:
Extremely embarrassing, IMO.
A little over a month ago, if I would have told you that the Flyers would be heading into this past weekend’s brutal gauntlet of games riding a massive wave of emotional momentum caused by a record setting shutout streak by Ilya Bryzgalov, you probably would have laughed me into internet hibernation until my thirties. Furthermore, the idea of emerging from the weekend with 3 of...
The Philadelphia Flyers have a solid 43-27 all-time regular season record (with 7 ties) against the Florida Panthers. After dropping a 2-1 decision last night, Philly finished the regular season series this year with a 3-1-0 mark against Kevin Dineen's club.
Last night's game was typical of the ones the Flyers have lost to Florida since the mid-1990s: a low-scoring affair...
One thing about the 2011-12 Flyers: They never quit and never stop competing, even when they get outplayed by top opponents for long stretches of games. Now that the club is also getting top-notch goaltending from Ilya Bryzgalov, their ability to come back if they do trail in the game bodes very well for the rest of the stretch run and playoffs.
If you look at the Flyers'...

With 10 games remaining in the regular season, the Philadelphia Flyers (42-22-8) can only try to take their own business and let the chips fall where they may when it comes to playoff matchups. Tonight, the Flyers continue their five-game homestand when Kevin Dineen's Florida Panthers (35-23-13) come to the Wells Fargo Center. The game starts at 7:00 p...
Flying high after a come-from-behind victory over the surging rival Penguins that ended their league-high winning streak, the Flyers will be facing a relatively hot Panthers team this evening with hopes of playing the role of streak-busters again. Florida has won four-straight, it’s longest such streak in almost four years of hockey, and is also riding hot goaltending as they cruise...
Earlier this month in the nation's capital, Washington's Alex Ovechkin repeatedly shot the puck at Philadelphia goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, but his Russian compatriot stopped every one of them. The two-time league MVP was slumping at that time, but has regained his scoring touch.
Bryzgalov, meanwhile, has been stellar between the pipes all month.
Coming off his second two...
