The fab 4 of Vince, Turtle, Drama, and E haven't been getting the best reviews this season, with HBO's Entourage leaving some viewers wondering if the show can rebound from a sluggish first few episodes like Vinny did after Scorsese called him up to play Gatsby. Personally, I've still enjoyed it, but it's not really the type of show I have ever turned on with great plot expectations—it's supposed to be a fun step out of reality, which I'd say it continues to be. If you are a regular Entourage viewer, one thing you may have noticed is that Eric Murphy, or E, occasionally wears some Islanders gear on the show. This serves as one of Entourage's many frequent reminders that the foursome is from New York, but producer Doug Ellin is actually a huge hockey/Islanders fan too.
So much so that, in episode 2 of the current season, when E flipped open his phone to read a message from his unrequited love, Sloane, the second message on the screen is from a familiar name for fans of the Philadelphia Flyers and the Phoenix Coyotes—Dan Carcillo... Sharp-eyed reader Ben Labar sent in a mention of it, which was confirmed by the Entourage F*ckin Fan Club blog.Watch yer language, Chico! We've frequently referred to the Flyers' young core as their version of the Rat Pack, but I'm sure there are a few Entourage-like moments among the guys when their friends come in to visit Philly.
You may be thinking, it's just a coincidence, they'll put any random name on something like that. But it turns out Kevin Connolly (the actor who plays E) and Carcillo have met before on at least one occasion, and Ellin has definitely at least met him. The Entourage blog linked above also explains who the other names on the phone likely refer to.
