Daniel Briere Stops During Shootout Goal, Scores Illegally (Video)

Before we begin, let us note that the Devils beat the Flyers in a shootout last night, so luckily a controversial goal didn’t affect the outcome of the game.  That being said, the NHL definitely got one wrong.  With Philadelphia and New Jersey tied 3-3 and headed for a shootout on Thursday night, Daniel Briere [...]

Keeping Couturier Paying Off For Flyers

When the Flyers coaching staff decided to keep 18-year-old Sean Couturier on the NHL roster right out of his first professional training camp, it came as a surprise to many. Although he was the 8th overall pick in this year’s draft, most scouts around the league thought that Couturier needed another year or two at the junior level before he was NHL-ready. However, Couturier has...

Flyers Forwards Need To Stop Diddling

I've reviewed the tape six times now. And someone who stood out, in not a great way, during last night's 4-3 shootout loss to the Devils, is Braydon Coburn. With Chris Pronger on sick leave all the Flyers defensemen have been asked to step up in his absence. Not only that, but they also have been forced to change their routines, to break habit and play with a number of different...

Schenn Odd Man Out When Healthy

The Flyers were forced to test their forward depth tonight while injuries continue to keep Danny Briere, Matt Read and Brayden Schenn out of the line-up. Defenseman Matt Walker was sent down to the AHL earlier this week to clear the cap space necessary to recall Ben Holmstrom and Harry Zolnierczyk, though Harry Z did [...]

Briere Controversial Shootout Goal Flyers vs. Devils (Video)

The Philadelphia Flyers went to a shootout last night against the New Jersey Devils. There was a lot of controversy over this goal scored by Danny Briere of the Flyers during the shootout. Briere came to a complete stop making Devils goalie Johan Hedberg dive for the puck. Briere then skated around Hedberg to score an open net goal. The goal was highly questioned by the Devils...

Pass or Fail: Danny Briere’s controversial shootout ‘stop’ goal

Danny Briere was the second shooter in the Philadelphia Flyers' shootout order against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night, and pulled off quite the move: Skating into the zone; stopping short to give Johan Hedberg a snow shower as the goalie lunged for the puck; then skating around Hedberg to tuck the puck into an empty net. Quite the move … but was it legal? The Devils...

Game 13: NJ @ PHI

The Flyers have a quick turnaround as they face off against the Devils. While the Flyers were busy notching a win within the first 7 minutes of the game, the Devils were off giving up a natural hat trick to Joffrey Lupul. It could have been worse for the Devils thanks to an amazing save by the ageless relic known as Marty Brodeur. Keys for tonight’s game and the sick save...

Flyers Lose to Devils 4-3 in Shootout

Home sweet home isn’t a phrase that really applies to the Flyers this season. The Broad Street Bullies are just 3-3-2 at the Wells Fargo Center this season after tonight’s 4-3 shootout loss to the New Jersey Devils. The Flyers scored the first goal of the game once again, this time with Zac Rinaldo putting the first one home 2:28 into the second period. They scored the second...

Devils-Flyers Preview

The Philadelphia Flyers are doing rather well without Danny Briere, and another meeting with the sputtering New Jersey Devils may keep them rolling. With Briere's status unknown, the Flyers look for their second three-game winning streak of the young season when they host the Devils on Thursday night. Philadelphia (7-4-1) followed Saturday's 5-1 win over Carolina with a...
