The Flyers have fired coach Peter Laviolette the Daily News has learned.
Laviolette will be replaced by assistant coach Craig Berube according to a club source. It is unclear at the moment as to whether Berube will be an interim coach or whether he will be given the job on a permanent basis starting today.
The Flyers are holding an 11 a.m. press conference at Wells Fargo Center with GM Paul Holmgren and team president Peter Luukko to discuss the news.
Laviolette and the Flyers got off to an 0-3 start for the second season in a row - and just the second time in franchise history.
Laviolette 49 seemed to be on a short leash to start the season despite a vote of confidence from chairman Ed Snider. On Sept. 13 Snider denied any claim that Laviolette was on the hot seat.
Laviolette was 149-98-29 with the Flyers over parts of five seasons. He was the third longest-tenured coach in Flyers history. He also had two years remaining on his contract which was not set to expire until 2014-15.

This morning, multiple sources reported that Peter Laviolette, the Flyers' coach for the last four seasons, was fired Monday morning after the team matched last year's franchise-worst 0-3-0 start. According to ESPN, it is the fastest firing in NHL history, matched only by Chicago's canning of Dennis Savard in 2008 after a 1-2-1 start. The team has looked sluggish in...

Craig Berube and the Flyers have agreed on a 2-year contract, Tim Panaccio reports.
The Flyers and head coach Peter Laviolette parted ways earlier today, just 3 games in Laviolette’s 5th season. Berube was an assistant before being promoted today.
Laviolette had reportedly lost the Flyers’ locker room, and owner Ed Snider called this year “The worst training camp I have seen...
So Peter Laviolette has become the first coaching casualty of the 2013-14 season. After 3 games. He’s been replaced by assistant coach Craig Berube.
Granted the Flyers played horribly in those games, but it’s a little early to be determining that the head coach is not getting through to his players.
Last night the worst possible thing happened for this team: they won.
Three games and six days.
That's all the time Peter Laviolette got with the Philadelphia Flyers before being dismissed Monday morning, thus becoming the first coaching casualty of the 2013-14 season.
But in reality, you can't look at the decision as either hasty or rash. We all are aware that the rejiggered division alignment was going to make things stickier in the Eastern...
PHILADELPHIA — Just three games into the season, the Philadelphia Flyers have fired head coach Peter Laviolette on Monday after an 0-3 start. There are reports soon to be confirmed that Peter Laviolette has been fired.
We'll always have this fist pump:
It's probably going to get worse before it gets better in Philadelphia. The firing of Peter Laviolette as Flyers head coach Monday isn't going to change much of the Flyers' fortune at least probably not this season and maybe not for a while.
Maybe Laviolette deserved to get fired. Both general manager Paul Holmgren and owner Ed Snider said they had concerns from the...

Paul noted that ESPN's Pierre LeBrun fired off a meaty set of "rumblings," and LeBrun's thoughts were featured as part of TSN's latest Insider Trading segment, which TSN thankfully transcribed:
What becomes of Peter Laviolette and how much heat is there now on Paul Holmgren?

After a poor performance on Saturday night against the Canadiens, the Flyers looked even worse on Sunday against the Hurricanes. It all stems from Philadelphia’s struggles to cleanly exit their own zone. The longer it takes them to exit their own end, the easier it is for the opponent to wear the Flyers’ skaters...
