The Philadelphia Flyers were crushed in Game 4 against thePittsburgh Penguins. The 10-3 loss was one of the worst in playoff history for the team. There were plenty of bad decisions in this game but one is going to be talked about a lot among the fans. Peter Laviolette made the decision to pull goalie Ilya Bryzgalov in the second period and turn to Sergei Bobrovsky. Given that Bobrovskywas even worse, there will be no goalie controversy. However, did the coach make the right decision? I have a mixed reaction on that. Here is a breakdown of the good and bad of his decision. Pulling Bryzgalov was wrong Laviolette made the switch early in the second period after Bryzgalov allowed his fifth goal. It is true that he was terrible but the game was only 5-3 at the time. Marc-Andre Fleury looked just as bad for Pittsburgh. As soon as he was pulled, I started to wonder if it would kill any chances the Flyers had to gain momentum. As it turned out, it did. Bobrovsky couldn’t handle the Pittsbu...

All Eyes on Bryzgalov for Game 5

As the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal match between the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins shifts back to the Consol Energy Center for tonight’s game, the pressure to come out and finish the series off intensifies for the Flyers. After a demoralizing 10-3 loss the other night that saw coach Peter Laviolette yank Ilya Bryzgalov, the talk in the city has focused on what...

For Flyers, The Heat Is On

Flyers Winger James Van Riemsdyk returned to the lineup last night for the first time since March 1st, but it wasn't enough to keep the Flyers from losing. The series has gone from 3-0 to 3-2 in the blink of an eye. All of the feel good stories about how well Flyers’ rookies have played and how poorly the Penguins’ stars have played have all dissipated. So has all of the...

Grossmann May Miss Game 5 For Flyers

from Frank Seravalli of Frequent Flyers, Defenseman Nick Grossmann missed Thursday’s practice. Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said that Grossmann suffered an “upper-body” injury in Game 4 against Pittsburgh. He is officially listed as “day-to-day.” Grossmann left the game in the second period after taking an elbow to the head from Evgeni Malkin. NBC 10’s Howard...

Flyers D Grossman out with concussion

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Nicklas Grossman will miss Friday night's Game 5 against Pittsburgh with a concussion. Grossman sustained the injury in the second period of a 10-3 loss in Game 4 on Wednesday and could be out indefinitely. Grossman did not travel with the team to Pittsburgh. Erik Gustafsson will take Grossman's spot in the lineup. The Flyers are already without...

Breathe Flyers Fans, We Still Have the 3-1 Series Lead

The score could have been 20-3 tonight, and it would still count for the same amount of wins and impact on this series: 1. While getting handled in front of your home crowd (embarrassed frankly), the one positive thing the Flyers can take out of Wednesday night's 10-3 loss to the Penguins is that they still hold a commanding 3-1 series lead. DISCLAIMER: This is obviously a joke...

Flyers D Grossmann to sit out Game 5 with concussion

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Nicklas Grossmann will sit out Friday's Game 5 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series versus the Pittsburgh Penguins with a concussion. Grossmann suffered the concussion during Wednesday's 10-3 lopsided loss in the City of Brotherly Love. Erik Gustafsson will take Grossmann's spot in the lineup for the Flyers, who can close out...

By 9-3, Flyers Fan Was Drunk & Middle Fingering The Penguins

Solid effort from the Flyers goaltending and defense last night in its 10-3 loss in Game 4. If you’re going to lose you might as well get your ass kicked. Get the ass kicking out of the system. Come back strong in Game 5 and finish off Sids. Yes, your new semi-NSFW hero/goon Zac Rinaldo was thrown out for this in a blowout. Vancouver also survived elimination. In Columbian hooker...

Flyers Poor D and Goaltending Are Familiar Issues

Shoddy goaltending and defense, coupled with a lack of discipline allowed the Pittsburgh Penguins a new lease on life in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. The Flyers now lead the series 3-1. A 10-3 drubbing at the hands of an archenemy hurts, no matter what the circumstances surround it are. With that said, the way the Flyers lost to the Penguins in game 4 of their Eastern Conference...

What To Look For In Game 5

Game 4 is one Flyers fans would like to forget even happened. The we were embarrassed in front of our home crowd by a desperate Pittsburgh team. The 10-3 final looked more like the score from a Steelers/Browns game from last year.   We knew the Pens weren't going to lay down in this series, and they proved that by running up the score on the Flyers Wednesday night. We saw flashes...

Flyers Look For Sweep, Penguins Fighting For Playoff Lives

The day we've all been waiting for (well since this past Sunday) is finally here. Tonight, the Flyers will face the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.  The Flyers have built a commanding 3-0  series lead on discipline, composure, and, a high scoring offensive attack. But as every player says... the fourth win is the hardest to get.   Sunday...

Penguins-Flyers Preview

Pittsburgh's Marc-Andre Fleury reverted to 40-win form and stifled the Flyers in Game 5. The way Philadelphia forward Scott Hartnell sees it, it's about time for Ilya Bryzgalov to do the same in Game 6. ''It's time for our defense and our goalie to win us a game,'' Hartnell said Saturday. ''It's not that Bryz is playing bad. We'd love...
