The Philadelphia Flyers have failed to win a Stanley Cup since 1975. But they're at least in the hunt. Not this year. Not after the Flyers failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2007 and only the second time since 1995. Any offseason shakeups needed to mold the Flyers back into a contender won't include changing the coach. Peter Laviolette has another chance to win the Cup with the Flyers, and will return for his fifth season with a chance to prove this was a one-year blip and not the start of downward spiral for the franchise. ''We're not in the playoffs, so we all underperformed,'' Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said Sunday. ''Players, coaches, myself. And we've got to get better. I'm not unhappy with the coaches. I think they did a good job under the circumstances. But we're sitting here today talking and the playoffs are going to start in two days and we're not in them, so that's not good.''...

Flyers keep Laviolette after missing playoffs

The Philadelphia Flyers have failed to win a Stanley Cup every season since 1975. But they're at least in the hunt. Not this year. Ilya Bryzgalov Calls Flyers Reporters ‘Lunatics,’ Their Writing ‘Ridiculous’ in Farewell Interview (Video)

Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov and his ridiculous contract likely won’t have to deal with the Philadelphia media next season, so the netminder made his interview on Sunday night count. In typical Bryz fashion, he awkwardly gave the scribes a lesson on professionalism after calling some of them “lunatics” and their writing “ridiculous.” “It’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous...

Ilya Bryzgalov blasts Philadelphia media, asks "What have you done for the city?"

Ilya Bryzgalov has had it with the media in Philadelphia. As the Flyers cleaned out their lockers following a disappointing season that ended with the team outside of the playoff picture, local media questioned Bryzgalov about being the man blamed for the poor season.  Bryzgalov curtly responded by asking reporters, "What have you done for the city?" If...

Ilya Bryzgalov Rips Philly Media

The Flyers season certainly didn't live up to many expectations. Whether it was the players the coach or the goalie, the team did not perform to their capabilities. Behind the scenes, the Philadelphia media reported on the struggles, the rumors, and the poor play of the team. The Flyers cleaned out their lockers on Sunday, and goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov had a lot to say to the...

They Call Him The Bryz... Flyers Goalie Sounds Off...

((HT: CSN Philly)) Ilya Bryzgalov has been known for his, how do we say this, um... independence... He naps on the bench and, allegedly, in team meetings. He's a free spirit. And he doesn't care what you think... Evidenced by his thoughts after the Philadelphia Flyers got to clean out their lockers and were reinforced by GM Paul Holmgren's thoughts that Peter...

NHL Draft Lottery, Flyers Get 11th Pick

The NHL Draft Lottery was on Monday night, and the Philadelphia Flyers were a part of it. New to the lottery this year is now every team that did not qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs, have a chance at the first overall pick.  Going into the draft the Flyers had a dismal 1.5% chance of getting the number one overall pick. The small chance that the Flyers had quickly passed, as...

Knuble Should Play in Final Game of Flyers Season Because I Said So

Categories: BREAKING NEWS Flyers News NHLTags: Mike KnubleI don’t know how other coaches handle the media, but I’ve sat in enough conferences with Philadelphia Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette to know that you don’t ask him questions about the line-up. You especially don’t ask him about goaltenders. After the second game of the 2011 Stanley Cup quarterfinals against...
