Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros will have surgery to clean up a herniated disk. He will be out of action for 6-8 weeks.
Philadelphia Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren gave brief updates on two of the team’s injured defensemen this afternoon.
Holmgren announced that recently acquired defenseman Pavel Kubina is now listed as day-to-day with an upper body injury. That comes as good news to Flyers fans. The monster Kubina has been a very solid addition to the Flyers defense corps. Pavel Kubina has not played since March 6th. The 34 year old defenseman was acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning just ahead of the NHL trade deadline.
Unfortunately, not all the news was good for Flyers fans.
Andrej Meszaros, one of the Flyers most reliable blue liners, will require back surgery to clean out disk fragments. The surgery will sideline the 26 year old Meszaros for 6-8 weeks, certainly ending Meszaros’ regular season, and could keep him out of action for some of the playoffs. Meszaros has ...

Flyers Surging at Right Time With Huge Overtime Win Over Pittsburgh
Wow. What a huge win! We were all worried it would go to a shootout, and luckily it didn’t, but who cares! All that matters is the Flyers won. They beat the NHL’s hottest team, gaining 3 points in the standings in the process.I don’t know who I hate more, the Penguins or the Rangers.Although he gave up 2 goals, Ilya Bryzgalov once again looked sharp, making several key saves...
Flyers Lose To Panthers 2-1
Game notes:
Tonight’s power play goal for Florida was the first PPG scored against Ilya Bryzgalov since February 25 at Calgary. It was just the third PPG allowed by the Flyers in the last 13 games.
Claude Giroux played a team-high 24:10 tonight, including more than 10 minutes in the first period. He was 17-for-20 (85 percent) on faceoffs.
The Flyers’ 62-percent faceoff...
The Flyers Time is Now!
The Philadelphia Flyers have four home games coming up starting tomorrow night. The thrilling last-second victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins this weekend left the Flyers one point behind the Pens and three points behind the New York Rangers.
Both the Flyers and the Pens have gained a lot of ground on the Rangers in the last two weeks. The Flyers have gone 8-1-1 in their last ten...
VIDEO: Claude Giroux is a baby
This happened at the end of the second period. Michalek high sticked Claude Giroux...in the shoulder:
Extremely embarrassing, IMO.
Tim Panaccio: No Talbot, No Lilja
Max Talbot and Andreas Lilja are OUT Sunday vs. Penguins.
The FLyers are listing both as day-to-day.
Lilja was struck in the throat Saturday at BOSTON with a deflected puck; Talbot fell on his right shoulder during a fight with Johnny Boychuk.
The good news? Talbot doesn't have a separated or dislocated right shoulder which was feared. Flyers are calling it "upper body."
Tim Panaccio: Pens Bring It, Hartnell Answers for Flyers
If the last two Flyer games didn't whet your appetite for playoff hockey, you're need to convert to the NBA.
Today's 3-2 Flyers overtime win against Pittsburgh was one of those "Can't wait till April" games if these two clubs meet in the playoffs.
Just a fabulous game. Scott Hartnell's offense and physical play coupled with Kris Letang's outstanding...
Hartnell Gets Last Laugh As Flyers Statement Win Ends Penguins' 11-Game Streak
Man, the Flyers and Penguins really hate each other, don't they?
With two huge points at stake on a Sunday afternoon affair in Philadelphia that was played with the fervor of a Stanley Cup playoffs matchup, the two teams traded blows on the scoreboard and after the whistle for 65 minutes. Well, alright. Not quite 65 minutes.
With four minutes to go in regulation, the teams...
Back in Bryzness + NHL94 Tourney!
A little over a month ago, if I would have told you that the Flyers would be heading into this past weekend’s brutal gauntlet of games riding a massive wave of emotional momentum caused by a record setting shutout streak by Ilya Bryzgalov, you probably would have laughed me into internet hibernation until my thirties. Furthermore, the idea of emerging from the weekend with 3 of...
Flyers snap Penguins' 11-game winning streak
All-Star Scott Hartnell tallied twice - with the latter coming 4:59 into overtime - as the Philadelphia Flyers overcame a two-goal deficit to snap visiting Pittsburgh's season-high 11-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory. Defenseman Kimmo Timonen netted a power-play goal and fellow All-Star Claude Giroux notched a pair of assists for the Flyers, who improved to 8-1-1 in their...
Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Comeback Kids
One thing about the 2011-12 Flyers: They never quit and never stop competing, even when they get outplayed by top opponents for long stretches of games. Now that the club is also getting top-notch goaltending from Ilya Bryzgalov, their ability to come back if they do trail in the game bodes very well for the rest of the stretch run and playoffs.
If you look at the Flyers'...
Panthers stead in win over Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Stephen Weiss and Sean Bergenheim both scored, and Scott Clemmensen stopped 35 shots to lead the Florida Panthers to their fifth straight win, 2-1 over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night.
Eric Wellwood scored for the Flyers.
Clemmensen was outstanding for the Southeast Division leaders and he outplayed counterpart Ilya Bryzgalov. Bryzgalov is one of the...
Of course Philthy ruins Pens’ streak
00.9 seconds. That’s all the Pens had to kill to take yesterday’s game into a shootout, where they’re 9-3. But the Flyers had to ruin everything – a share of first place, the 12-game win streak, the game…the Pens got none of that.
Instead, they had to settle for one point because the world’s biggest douche since Osama and Saddam beat the buzzer. The Pens left Scott Hartnell...
Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 3/20/12 vs. Panthers
PREVIEW 7:45 AM EDT
With 10 games remaining in the regular season, the Philadelphia Flyers (42-22-8) can only try to take their own business and let the chips fall where they may when it comes to playoff matchups. Tonight, the Flyers continue their five-game homestand when Kevin Dineen's Florida Panthers (35-23-13) come to the Wells Fargo Center. The game starts at 7:00 p...
Game Day - FLA vs PHI
Flying high after a come-from-behind victory over the surging rival Penguins that ended their league-high winning streak, the Flyers will be facing a relatively hot Panthers team this evening with hopes of playing the role of streak-busters again. Florida has won four-straight, it’s longest such streak in almost four years of hockey, and is also riding hot goaltending as they cruise...
