Pronger, Nodl out, Schenn in during busy day of Flyers roster moves
Injured reserve. AHL call-ups. Waivers.
If a new NHL fan wanted a quick lesson in the art of roster management, he or she would have found the series of moves by the Philadelphia Flyers today to be extremely informative.
GM Paul Holmgren announced that captain Chris Pronger would be moved to long-term injured reserve, due to upcoming knee surgery. Forward Brayden Schenn and Defenseman Kevin Marshall were recalled to Philadelphia, and are both expected to play on Friday against the Anaheim Ducks. In addition, forward Andreas Nodl was placed on waivers, and will be made available to every single team in the NHL.
For the Flyers, already dealing with injuries to Jaromir Jagr, James van Riemsdyk and Andreas Lilja, today’s transactions constituted a significant roster shakeup.
Chris Pronger had missed the past four games with a reported illness, but he was expected...

The Carolina Hurricanes have claimed right wing Andreas Nodl on waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers.
The team also reassigned forward Brent Sutter to Charlotte of the AHL. The moves were announced prior to coach Kirk Mueller's debut with the Hurricanes on Tuesday.

A day after losing Chris Pronger to knee surgery, the Flyers have lost another player- this time to the Carolina Hurricanes.
According to Tim Panaccio of Comcast Sports Net, the Hurricanes have claimed Nodl off of waivers.
Nodl appeared in 12 games for the Flyers, recording only 1 assist and a +/- of -1.
Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger will have surgery on his left knee today and will miss a month. It has been a tough season for Pronger, Philadelphia's captain, who also missed six games with an eye injury. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Peter DeLuca. "Any time a player has surgery, there's concern, whether he's an older player like Chris or a younger player.
The Flyers are going to need to continue winning without their captain on the ice for the next month or so.
Defenseman Chris Pronger is set to have loose bodies removed from his left knee on Tuesday, the team announced Monday.
“Obviously Chris has played a long time,” said general manager Paul Holmgren. “This has been an issue probably for the last month or so for him that...
Jim Rutherford has been a busy man the last couple of days as he has now claimed 24-year old winger Andreas Nodl off waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers. At first, I didn't think much of this move because Nodl appeared to be nothing more than a depth forward and I assumed the 11 goals and 22 points he had last season was a product of playing on a line with Mike Richards. However...
WESTMINSTER, Calif. - Seems every time we talk to a Flyer we find out something new about their health status.
In recent weeks, we found that Matt Read definitely had a concussion at the start of November and missed three games; we found that while Chris Pronger had a virus last week, it was really his left knee that was keeping him out of the lineup.
And today, goalie Ilya...
