Ilya Bryzgalov wasn't great for five games of Philadelphia's first-round series vs. Pittsburgh. He wasn't even good.
But, he was ready to dominate in Game 6. And he delivered.
The Flyers are counting on more performances like his 30-save effort in the clincher against the Penguins to keep them advancing through the Eastern Conference playoffs.
For now, though, the Flyers will wait. Coach Peter Laviolette gave them a day off on Monday, but they will practice the rest of the week, despite the fact that they may not know who they face in Round 2 until late Thursday.
The Flyers publicly insisted they have no rooting interest in the rest of the playoffs. Of course, it might not matter depending on which Bryzgalov shows up. The one who allowed 20 goals in the first five games of Round 1 vs. Pittsburgh. Or the one who had a .968 save percentage in Game 6.

Philadelphia Flyers caught HORSE-ing around before playoff game
Some pregame horsing around was the key to the Philadelphia Flyers game 6 dominance.
Prior to yesterdays playoff game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Flyers players Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds cleared their heads by playing a quick game of H.O.R.S.E. in the hallway of the Wells Fargo Center. Maybe they should stick with this pregame ritual, as Philadelphia would go onto...

Flyers Clearer Path to Stanley Cup Finals
The Philadelphia Flyers wanted to be done with the first round while everyone else in the Eastern Conference beat themselves up. But now that Flyers fans like myself are panicking over the Pittsburgh Penguins rallying back, it is harder to pay attention to the rest of the East – or to envision potential second round matchups.
Yet after April 21, it is very hard to ignore how the...
Flyers' rookies up to the challenge
Some of the biggest contributors for the Philadelphia Flyers in their first-round win over Pittsburgh were players too young to really grow those scraggly playoff beards.
Sean Couturier was only 16 when Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin led the Penguins to a Stanley Cup victory in 2009. Just last spring, he watched the NHL playoffs on television. Now, the rookie center is right in...

By Charlie O’Connor (@THG_Charlie)
Perhaps the best compliments come not from your allies, but from your enemies. Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux can surely attest to that.
“He’s the best player on the ice, but I don’t think we we’re surprised by that,” Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik said after falling...
Philadelphia Flyers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins:Wild Series Comes to an End
Claude Giroux had his coach call him the best player in the world. Giroux needed one shift to prove that claim is more than hometown hype. He flattened Sidney Crosby only 5 seconds into the game, buried his sixth goal of the series past Marc-Andre Fleury 27 seconds later, and led a Philadelphia Flyers charge into the second round. Giroux wrapped up a dominant series with a...
GARTH: Clutch
Goodbye Penguins. Danny Briere, Claude Giroux and the Flyers have sent the powerhouse Penguins packing.

Na na na na, na na na na, heyyyyy, goood byyyeee!

Go home, it’s over; Flyers win first round 4-2
So much for “Pens in 7,” eh? The same things that killed the Penguins in Games 1, 2 and 3 were the same things that cost them a Game 7 at home to try and pull off one of the hardest things to do in sports – come back from a 3-0 hole. Make it three years in a row now that the Pens haven’t made it out of the first round since winning the Cup in ’09.
But average goaltending...
