(Getty Images) The Philadelphia Flyers have signed Steve Mason to a one-year, $1.5 million extension, according to Anthony SanFilippo.  Mason, 24, would have been a free agent this coming summer, but the Flyers didn't want to let him get away. The Flyers traded Philadelphia's previous backup goalie, Michael Leighton and a third round draft pick in 2015 to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Mason last week. A few days after being traded, Mason made his Flyers debut on Saturday's game aganist the Winnipeg Jets in the third period, which ended in a 4-1 loss. Mason blocked all nine shots on goal. In 2009, Mason won the Calder Trophy as a rookie with Columbus. Since then, his career has gone downhill.  This season, Mason compiled a 3-6-1 record with an .899 save percentage and 2.95 goals against average, in 13 apperances with the Blue Jackets. Mason has a career record of 96-99-27 with a 2.90 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. He also has 19 career shutouts. With a lot of work, Mason hopes to become Philadelphia's number one goaltender next year.  Victoria O'Reilly is the Lead Analyst covering the Philadelphia Flyers for Buzz on Broad and host of Belles On Broad.
